Dannydeman
It's true that Windows 7 is just a very much tweaked version of Vista. The only revolution is the taskbar, and the way it behaves. Once used to it, it's really a benefit. Vista SP2 isn't that terrible though. It's kinda fast and very stable as well. EDIT: I have confirmation that the build being uploaded to usenet, is in fact the real 7600 build. Edited July 12, 2009 by Dannydeman
MagicAndre1981
so when the 7 fanboys go on about how great 7 is and how terrible Vista is, I can't help but laugh, or facepalm, depending on who has the most ridiculous comment. +

Xerxes
If this is RTM then Microsoft sure as hell was Blind and Deaf when it came to the UI.Unfinished Icons: Changed a few here and there, the rest is still Vista. Unfinished GUI: Made some tweaks in the taskbar and start menu, the rest is still Vista Wow! I really was expecting to see new Icons and a new Theme at the least. I guess will have to wait for Windows 8 to be the show stopper. Huh? you never used Windows before? cause if you had, you'd know the icons\UI have never been finished since what, Win95?! Why are you complaining about how a lot of it is "still Vista"? I guess you're unaware of how similar Vista and 7 are, although a lot of the 7 fanboys are in denial about that which makes me laugh. Yeah, you try to tell them how close 7 is to Vista and they'll bite your head off....they just can't accept Vista was a good OS and that they've been had by the media, their loss. Subject Delta
Prob not. The leaked version is ultimate with everything unlocked. So I don't know if anyone would bother uploading the home or professional versions. Probably won't apply in the RTM, the betas always installed as ultimate because that is the version of the OS with all of its features available. The various editions will be available as per normal with no hacking needed with the RTM Who in their right mind actually has logon sounds or the default icons on almost any OS? I mean seriously, the first thing I do on any OS is I turn off any system sounds, replace the icons and whatever awful wallpapers / colour schemes they ship with. They're just sounds - replace them with .. I don't know, SOMETHING :p I never change any of them, it strikes me as being a pointless task, especially the icons as they really aren't actually that bad in Vista and 7 Someone explain to me why pirating this tonight, or whenever the RTM is announced - is a smart idea, ignoring the moral implications of course; given that there 3 months between now and final. Activation rearms?
FISKER_Q
Which is basically what I said. Vista and 7 aren't TOO different, so when the 7 fanboys go on about how great 7 is and how terrible Vista is, I can't help but laugh, or facepalm, depending on who has the most ridiculous comment.Anyways, I'll hold out hope that 7600 is RTM and that it'll be leaked soon enough. Difference in good/mediocre vs. great usually lies in the details. Windows 7 adds polish that makes Vista seem mediocre by comparison.
thefonz
Oh yeah, that was my next question. Surely folk who download this are not going to be able to apply official ms updates or activation codes etc? Sorry if i'm coming across as dumb; i do know what RTM implies; but i'm curious as to why people are so desperate to use this when there are many pitfalls to it. primexx
No it's not cause Windows XP Professional was 2600 build. but XP to Vista was a 3400 build number jump whereas windows 8 is probably going to be 8xxx leave room for windows 9 and you've got about 1k builds to do the entire windows 8 Oh yeah, that was my next question. RTM = release to manufacturing = gold = what you get in the retail box the only problem is that you don't really know if the leaks are actually what they claim to be. It's pretty asinine to pirate an operating system to begin with, you have no guarantee that the download wasn't tempered with.
+Elі Subscriber² Posted July 12, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted July 12, 2009 Something is fishy about all this, I don't believe this 7600 build if real is RTM yet, first a person uploads 10 parts and suddenly goes into hiding, then we get that statement from that Microsoft guy, then we get this file on usenet that won't go past 50MB, and also I highly doubt it no new icons at least would make it into RTM, specially since some have already been updated. D e v i a n t
I do not think this is the final RTM. 7600 may be the signed off version, but this iso may not be the final packaged version that will be RTM.

Well, once the updates start coming "folk who download this" are going to receive all of them and activate as well, once they get their codes come october and their retail boxes with codes arrive. Untill then just rearm. If this build is what it seems to be thers no pitfalls or anything. And if you think about it even more this is not really pirating (although I havent read eula) as you still have to buy it retail to get the activation code. If you create a backup of installation disc you own it shouldnt count as pirating. And by own i mean you have already prepurchased or atleast going to. dismuter
but then between now and Oct more versions will come out that have bug fixes, patches etc; so you may aswell wait till October! No. Any fix between RTM and release will be on Windows Update. People buying Windows 7 in october will get the exact same version as the RTM which is about to be leaked. Someone explain to me why pirating this tonight, or whenever the RTM is announced - is a smart idea, ignoring the moral implications of course; given that there 3 months between now and final. The benefit is to not have to wait another 3 months before taking advantage of the benefits of Windows 7. Oh yeah, that was my next question. Surely folk who download this are not going to be able to apply official ms updates or activation codes etc? They will if they get a license key when the product starts selling. slmgr -rearm allows activation to be postponed for 120 days, without cracking the OS.
