The "spyware" is only installed if you downloaded the stub installer from the website. It asks you if you want to install some extra programs at the start before you install Digsby. If you opted not to install any of them you've nothing to worry about. If you installed from the clean installer I linked to earlier, you just have to disable the research tool as mentioned earlier.

they are talking about the offers in the main installer just don't accept them (just like with many other programs that do the same crap)

Digsby itself does not have any 'spyware', and as posted use the alternative installer which has no offers or anything at all that they offer. don't listen to the paranoid alarmists.

I don't see how the Miranda project is still alive.

I remember a friend who used it roughly 5 years ago and recommended it. Till this day, no matter which plugin, with or without, or how you customize Miranda, it WILL crash even on Stable versions.

Tried VoxOx again, d way too hungry. 138mb ram against 11.9mb with Pidgin.

Gone back to Pidgin.

I've got 6GB of RAM, so it's not a problem for me, will probably upgrade to 12GB or 24GB of RAM when the company that makes the RAM I use comes out with 4GB sticks.

Trillian Astra is miles ahead of everything else in terms of looks and features. Most Digsby converts were turned off by the lack of updates to the old Trillian, but probably have not given Trillian Astra the full re-try. And to anyone who complains about the default skin being ugly (which I still think isn't that bad), check out this one.

Nice looking skin alright. I haven't tried Astra, purely because I'm happy with Digsby.

Astra is probably good now while it's still in beta and free. But it probably won't be all free once final. With the old Trillian I would have had to buy Pro to be able to use GTalk. Hopefully they won't cripple it in such a stupid way once it's final.

They've already announced the differences between free and final. I cannot quite remember what the feature differences were, but they were not vital features. One of the enhancements is an extremely beefy conversation history browser, and a few other things. I think the other thing related to how extensive you can skin your client, but I could be wrong about that one.

Edit: Oh yeah, one other subscriber benefit is you can use their web-based messenger at www.trillian.im much like how Meebo functions

It's currently free to all beta testers and is quite nice (albeit stripped down of course), but is fully operational.

That isn't planned. I believe plugins are supported in the free version as well as A/V, etc.

I've been using Trillian for years, and Astra for a while, and it is just amazing. I recommend it to anyone looking to chat on multiple protocols. :)
