ilovetech
Has Microsoft released a hotfix in Windows Update for the chkdisk bug yet? not yet! & they are not in any hurry to do so! Routerbad
It seems Sinofsky said a while ago "second half of August". I could have sworn... Why does it matter whether it's the same as WZOR? The RTM build number is well-known by now, if you are that interested, do some research. Considering everyone here is getting it from Technet/MSDN, why would anyone care? protocol7
Has Microsoft released a hotfix in Windows Update for the chkdisk bug yet? They've decided it's a feature now. Not a bug. magnetra7
I did some testing and found out that downloading using the Akamai download manager is the fastest. So I am wondering which one you all are using to download? Here's a poll: Poll: What download manager are you using? [*]Microsoft File Transfer Manager [*]Akamai Download Manager [*]Plain old HTTP browser download [*]Other download manager Current poll results: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/807548-windows-7-rtm-now-available-on-technet-and-msdn/page/18/#findComment-591391432 Share on other sites
pupdawg21
I wonder if Microsoft have eve considered utilising bitTorrent for such a monumental release... it would have actually worked into everyone's favor including themselves... sigh. Bittorent isn't an option probably because theres no way they can limit or track whose getting the file once the tracker and link is made public. Routerbad
More than likely the downloaded from "those other sources" rather than waiting. That's fine if that's their bag, but could they not check the build number for themselves? I would not have assumed that a bunch of people with Technet accounts would be pulling the "RTM" build from wz0r rather than waiting a few days to get it legally. I would not have assumed that a bunch of people with Technet accounts would be pulling the "RTM" build from wz0r rather than waiting a few days to get it legally. Apparently, some people did. Since it's confirmed that the leaked build would be the same with the RTM build. Therefore they decided to download at the time, and grab the product key when it comes out. shinoo
Well for all those wondering I downloaded the x64 Ultimate ISO and installed it on a fresh disk. The license agreement that came up said Windows 7 Ultimate and there was nowhere to change versions during the initial install. After the install was complete and during 1st boot it asked for a key I tried putting in a Home Premium key and it said that it was the wrong key for the SKU installed. Put in an Ultimate key and no problem. So there ya go.. that was my experience anyway. magnetra7
You all definitely should try the Akamai download manager! On my own connection, download speed was around 100 KB/s using FTM. When I started using Akamai, I got 850 KB/s! You can use Akamai by navigating to "Top Downloads" and using those links (IE required) instead of the normal "Downloads" webpage on TechNet. pupdawg21
I don't know if some of you guys have noticed this but there are actually (2) distinct places to download the Windows 7 RTM from on both MSDn and Technet. from the regular download link (from Microsoft) and from the top downloads section (From Akaimai global CDN). The Akaimai way should be faster for most people. If you are getting low speeds you should really try the Akamai side. Much faster. 50-200KB from MS since the load has kicked in vs 2MBps from akamai. You'd have to change the file (ei.cfg was it?) to be able to change the "edition" of the Iso. I think it's that file that dictates the edition of that iso. So us volume license sa users get it tomorrow right ? Gersson
Ok guys, this is fun.I hooked 3 WLAN adapters to my PC and created a loadbalancer. pupdawg21
So, it seems while it should be entirely possible to Install ANY version of the RTM from any of the CDs it seems that each individual DVD that is up on TechNet/MSDN have been modified to only accept the respective version keys. I just realized this now upon getting one of the isos downloaded. Trying to activate with a different version's key than the labeled name fails. Just a heads up. My original theory was wrong. The sizes are the same but they are in fact different.
