Updated: Favre to return (again): QB signs with Vikings

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Brett Favre looks ready to unretire again.

The 39-year-old quarterback arrived in Minnesota on Tuesday to meet with the Vikings, getting off a team plane at a small St. Paul airport and getting into an SUV after shaking hands with the ground crew.

Coach Brad Childress confirmed the planned meeting in an e-mail to The Associated Press. Asked if the plan was to sign Favre, Childress replied: "In a perfect world."

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports Favre and the Vikings were deep in contract negotiations on a contract as of Monday night, according to a league source.

The meeting comes just three weeks after Childress said Favre told him he would stay retired. The Vikings have wrapped up training camp last week -- Favre was never a big fan of training camp -- and beat Indianapolis 13-3 in their preseason opener Friday. They got a strong performance from quarterback Sage Rosenfels, who has been competing with Tarvaris Jackson for the starting job.

Just when you thought it was all over...

eh, He loves the game. I personally wouldn't turn down $12 million either.

Yeah, maybe it gets old that he "retires" every time he changes teams, but so what. He's fun to watch, and he doesn't cause trouble like a lot of the trash in the league.

If it wasn't for the constant media mockery, he'd be undeniably the best quarterback of all time. A lot of the other QBs in history have done the same thing, but fortunately for them, they didn't have mass media to tear them apart.

I'd rather see Favre come back and play 20 times rather than Stallworth get away with murder and be allowed to play. Same goes with Vick and Pacman Jones. Those are the guys you should be talking **** about...

yeah I agree with this. Favre isn't doing anything illegal and he loves the game. No one seems to be making as much of a fuss about the eagles signing Vick as the vikings signing Favre.

Seeing how I can't stand Tavarus and Sage can be questionable, I think this is a pretty decent move. Except, Childress should have waited after the first 3-4 cupcake games of the season to see how Tavarus or Sage performs before signing him. Given Sage's decent performance, Childress pretty much told Sage that he doesn't have that much confidence in him after pulling this action to sign Brett.

dude, you haven't seen the backlash in Philly have you? My Favorite quote so far: Hide your Beagle, Vick's an Eagle.
