Do you need third-party performance software on windows 7?

3rd party developers need to do better than that to have *any* hope of survival, so they might well have something you like better, & almost always the more reliable 3rd party apps are at least as good.

There is making a better product, and then there is making crap and marketing it as a better product. I imagine that many software companies make a pretty penny marketing buttons and progress bars because they realize that the real thing people want is to feel like they have extra control over their computer.

Third party tweaking/optimization software is like antibacterial keyboard coatings and personal air purifiers - they invent a problem and claim to offer a solution.

Personally, the only one I have installed is Windows 7 manager, it has all the features I need, mostly though, there are alott of non performance tweaks that could be done to 7. Such as easily changing the logon screen via a registry key. I dont really know if it neccesserily needs performance tweaks, but it is not perfect and there are ALLOT of usability and system tweaks that could be done.

Wow, using Windows Defrag? That's something I gave up on since Windows 98, but I'm willing to reconsider it. You guy seem to think it's fine... one less program to clutter the background may be a good thing.

I've found the Vista/7 built-in defrag works just as well as 3rd-party ones. Vista's requires some command-line manipulation to get it 'going' first. (i.e.: It should be told to defrag >64MB files at least once.)
