sin-ergy
Dragon Age Origins Funniest Scene :p I lol'd! solardog
Ive had this game for about a week now and like it well enough, but the environmental graphics are simply horrible. Ive haven't experienced a game that has just completely ignores how the world looks like this, especially in the last 5 years or so. To buy an Alienware machine for this game is like buying a Ferrari to drive in a parking lot. The game itself is decent, I'm not blown away like I was hoping tho. GreenMartian
I'm going to buy Dragon Age and I'm just wondering, is it possible to play it without the DVD? I have Mass Effect and it doesn't need the DVD to run so I was just wondering. You can find 'fixed' ISO's of around 30kb in size, if you know where to look. Though can be used for illegal purposes (so can knives/guns...), I use one to keep my physical disc in pristine condition. Slammers
Ive had this game for about a week now and like it well enough, but the environmental graphics are simply horrible. To buy an Alienware machine for this game is like buying a Ferrari to drive in a parking lot. The game itself is decent, I'm not blown away like I was hoping tho. Your exaggerating more than a little bit. Alot of the outdoor environments are very bland and also some of the indoor sections too. Many of the towns and indoor sections are actually very nice, with lots of detail and character all over them. Make sure you zoom in from the tactical view occasionally to appreciate the true scope of some of the castles/dungeons etc. as many have lovely roofs and lighting effects that you can't see from top down. Considering the scope and the game, how many places there are to visit and how everything looks good together and nothing contrasts in different areas I would say the gfx are more than adequate for an rpg. Definitely not worth buying an alien rig for though lol (not that any game is when their systems are so hideously overpriced!!) Andre S. Veteran Posted December 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 7, 2009 My take so far (I've only been through the Prelude and beginning of Chapter 1): I'm once again underwhelmed by something I awaited eagerly. A successor to Baldur's Gate 2? Made by Bioware, with new technology and larger budgets? That had to be the best thing since sliced bread. I'm underwhelmed because there's just not enough novelty here. Baldur's Gate 2 innovated on many levels: for one, it was the first large-scale computer RPG where you could advance to D&D level 20 (and higher in the expansion), basically becoming a God, summoning the Prince of Demons, wielding the Holy Avenger and delightful things like that. Also the story was top-notch and very introspective, all the spell effects, animations and backgrounds looked incredibly good (I think they still do). Dragon Age doesn't impress me graphically. I'm not very intrigued by the limited selection of spells, and being offered a choice of classes between mage, rogue and warrior is a throwback to 1996 (yeah, Diablo). I don't like the tactical view, it's actually quite painful to execute precise tactics in this view so I wonder what the name is supposed to mean. It's basically a cinematic mode, but as the game looks rather washed-out there's not much to see. On the other hand, the strategic view doesn't zoom out far enough, so you see about as much of the battlefield as in Baldur's Gate 1 with its interface covering 40% of the screen in 640x480. What the game does extremely well, and possibly better than Baldur's Gate 2 (at least so far) is storyline, dialogue, basically all the written and scripted stuff. So I might keep playing it for the storyline, although it's a bit of an intellectual investment, and I tend to play video games for relaxing rather than concentrating. Baldur's Gate 2 had lots of very juicy battles to compensate for all the reading. Oh, and it's much, much better than Neverwinter Nights. basques
I just finished the game this morning, and I can say it gives you a very decent gameplay time. There are usual boring moments where you just wanna exit the game, but 10 minutes later you find yourself playing it again. For me, there were some good epic moments, the voice acting is incredible, graphics decent, dialogues really good. And overall a really nice story. But as someone who finished Baldur's Gate 2, 6 times, this is still nowhere as good as BG. The size of the world and the depth of the story, the grandeur god-like feeling is not as strong as in BG2. I loved Dragon Age, and its definitely worth your money, but I wish they would come up with something at least half as good as BG2. I guess I am just stuck to the past here, most probably because BG for it's time was one of the best FRP ever. x9248
Patch 1.02 released Patch details:Many of the fixes affecting balance, gameplay, or plot scripting are already included in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation?3 versions of Dragon Age: Origins. You do not need to download patches prior to Patch 1.02. Downloading Patch 1.02 contains all previous patches. Downloading Patch 1.02 will provide you with all patch data available. Balance * Daggers now apply 0.5 points of damage per additional point in dexterity and 0.5 points of damage per additional point in strength, as originally intended. This increases dagger damage for high-dexterity characters. * During combat, mana or stamina reserves now correctly regenerate more quickly when reserves are low. This allows players to occasionally use an talent or spell in the later stages of lengthy fights. * When exploring, mana and stamina now regenerate more quickly at higher character levels. This reduces downtime between fights. * The spells Force Field, Crushing Prison, Cone of Cold, and Blizzard now have shorter durations and/or longer cooldowns. This ensures that combatants can no longer stun-lock each other by repeatedly casting the same spell. * The cooldowns for several low-level sustained abilities are now shorter. This ensures that players are not penalized for accidentally deactivating them. * Certain battles were not scaling properly, resulting in excessively difficult fights. They now scale as intended. * Enemy corpses now drop health poultices and money more appropriately, resulting in less clutter in the player's inventory. Gameplay * In rare cases, enemy corpses were selectable when they contained no loot. This no longer occurs. * Party members whose combat tactics were set to defensive behavior no longer stop attacking after using a spell or talent. * In rare cases, combat tactics conditions could fail to determine whether a character had enough mana or stamina to use an ability. This no longer occurs. * The Rally talent no longer repeats its audio effect if it is active during certain conversations. * The Rally talent no longer deactivates upon area transitions or conversations. * The Shimmering Shield spell now deactivates when the character is out of mana. Plot *Spoiler Warning* * Promotional downloadable content items now remain in the player's inventory when standard items are removed at the end of the dwarf noble origin. * Repeatedly talking to Duncan after gathering the vials in the Korcari Wilds but not the treaties no longer provides duplicate experience. * Leliana's personal plot can now be completed if the player substantially increased her approval (through gifts) before talking to her. * During the siege of Redcliffe, enemies are no longer able to spawn in locations that would break the plot. * Bann Teagan no longer disappears when he is supposed to be accessible during Urn of Sacred Ashes. PC Specific * Controlling a summoned creature (like a ranger's pets) during certain special area transitions no longer results in odd behavior. * Creating a character in a custom module did not create a folder for saves. This could result in corruption of main campaign saves. This no longer occurs. * In some cases, the class icon was set incorrectly for characters imported from the downloadable Character Creator. This no longer occurs. * The options menu now includes a setting to automatically download previously purchased content that is not currently installed. * After installing new downloadable content, the game now always reminds the user to restart the game. * The icons for some promotional downloadable content items were missing. They now appear correctly. * The screenshot upload GUI would stop working from time to time on the client. There was a memory override that was fixed. It is a client fix. It doesn't affect the other problems we have seen on the server. http://social.bioware.com/page/da-patches Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/834066-official-dragon-age-origins/page/10/#findComment-591945760 Share on other sites

WastedJoker
I'm finding it so hard controlling the position of my players :( I understand that my warriors should be tanking/threat to attract the aggro but my mage & rogue (long-range) keep rushing in too. I want the mage to always stay long-range but I want my rogue to be long-range at first then use stealth to get close and then back-stab. I've not really got any tactics on except healing ones so any advice on tactics would be a great help too. There's a little button under your four characters portraits that switches between do nothing and act for themselves. Switch it so it looks like a open hand and your characters will stop moving by them selves (really annoying I know especially when you cast a heavy aoe spell and your warrior/rogue just runs into it) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/834066-official-dragon-age-origins/page/10/#findComment-591958054 Share on other sites

As stunts stated, you should also make use of the hold/run free mode that you can alternate by pressing "H". deletedxyz
does H (Hold) work only as a group or can it be used on an individual basis? Both. You can do it individually by selecting one character, moving them into position then pressing "H" to make them hold their position. You can also do it as a team by clicking on the tiny icon placed right next to the "hold" icon (icon of a hand under your characters) then following the same procedure as previously mentioned. You can do it for one, two, three or all four characters.
