Philips Home Cinema setup questions

Recommended Posts

Ok so heres the setup at the moment

We have a Philips Home Cinema 5.1 system (model number HCS3020/5) and it has 2 aux (red and white) sockets at the rear.

Now at the moment aux 1 is being used on the 360, and aux 2 is being used for the Sky+HD box, also I have a scart cable connecting the TV to the home cinema system

But tomorrow we are getting a philips bluray player (model number) BDP3000/5) and i want that hooked upto the home cinema system, but i dont know how to do it without disconnecting either the 360 or the Sky box, is there anyway round it so I can have all 3 connected at the same time?

Pic included to show connections

Are all the inputs 2.0 phonos?

Can you get some phono splitters from Dixons or somewhere?

which ones of these will work: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criter...s&source=15

I think it's more like these.

Switch version

Other version...

All limited to 2.0 stereo. Not the best Bluray experience, but it does what you asked for.

It's not a stand alone amp like the onkyo devices, but it's also not an all in one, so not like what you already have. (The sound system you have doesn't appear to have any 5.1 inputs.)

This is just speakers and an amp. Not bluray or dvd. Has loads of inputs though for future devices.

(Just an example, there are alternatives, but I have my eye on this one for my new house. The wireless-rear option is appealing to me.)

edit : my mate was in the same position. He bought an upscaling DVD, and also bought a "home cinema" sound system (with an extra DVD player), and didn't realise that they can't connect to each other because the sound system doesn't have any extra inputs. I just told him to send it back and start over.

Xero, you might be better off allowing the sound to come from BluRay to TV, then back down the scart.

Scart _can_ carry a more complex Dolby or Prologic signal down it, so it would be better than the definite 2.0 you'd get from phonos.

Nice, would have been nice to have a simple connector like that, here, in the past... Like HDMI today.

is this a joke?

scart has been around since the 80s, how have you never owned a product with it :o

i wish HDMI supported auto switching like scart did.. it's gets tiresome scrolling through the inputs

I don't think SCART really made it to america / canada

Could be wrong though

Maybe because in Canada/USA SCART was never used.... Back in the days ('80) we used Coax cable and Composite RCA cable, then came SVHS and Component and now HDMI.

    • Sorry, I found your question odd, that's all 😅.
    • "LOL The IoT version is for embedded systems" LOL. The IoT version is for whatever you want, why are you so stuck up? It's just A NAME. Open your mind, buddy 😅. It's not a different version of Windows, only the licensing model and the support dates change, nothing else. "there no real reason to do that" Everyone has their reasons. You love to use Linux. Why? You have YOUR reasons. Other people will have theirs. I use Windows 11 and Linux on the side. Why? I have my reasons. "No security updates? Who cares!" Many people do, just not you. Why not use a supported OS instead of an unsupported one if you can? LOL. I find it odd that a person that loves Linux and choice/freedom so much has such a hard time understanding why people do things different than him.
    • Most people don't know what a Hz is; They buy the iPhone they can afford. This is a non-story, and it's here to get the Apple haters engaging.
    • Ummmm I thought we talking about the desktop for home users? LOL The IoT version is for embedded systems. No regular user is using that version and there no real reason to do that. Why does it seem like half the people here hate using an appropriate OS for the hardware they have? The kind of comments I see here all the time... No security updates? Who cares! I really like Windows 8.1 which was very underrated. Did I run it when it was supported? Well no I used Windows 7 at the time. My hardware doesn't support Windows 11. Windows 10 or Linux than? Nope! They are of course running Windows 11. LOL My hardware does support Windows 11. Never! I am running Windows 10 forever or at least until Windows 12 comes out and then you will have to rip my copy of Windows 11 from my dead, cold hands! I have a 12 year old PC and it's machine #4. Well that would be perfect to run Linux sir! Nah! I will run Windows on that too. Windows 7 of course and yes I absolutely sometimes must browse the Internet with it. Freedom! Did I cover all the scenarios we see here? LOL
