Windows 7 64-bit drivers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've recently installed Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 5630 (officially 5634) laptop but can't find any Windows 7 64-bit drivers, or 64-bit drivers for any OS for that matter.

This is causing a few problems in that I can't use the webcam and apparently the memory manager needs drivers too.

Acer's website is less than helpful, only offering 32-bit drivers for Windows XP / Vista.

Anyone got any reliable driver download sites (Windows update failed to find any!)?

Thanks,

Huh? You mean chipset drivers? You can get those from Intel, although I didn't have to install anything extra for my Intel 945 chipset.

If you can find out who made your webcam (Logitech for example), you can attempt to try the drivers from them to see if they work. Otherwise, you're out of luck.

I'm not sure that the webcam would need 64-bit drivers, so you could just try this if you haven't already:

or

Yes, but that doesn't mean Acer made it, Logitech could have made that webcam and therefore Logitech Drivers could work for example.

The OP's laptop has 3 possible cameras. Logitech, Bison (apparently made by Samsung), and Suyin.

According to the release notes for the Bison driver, which is horribly outdated (2006), Vista x64 is supported, which means the driver should work fine in Win7 x64. However, Acer has removed the x64 Vista driver from their package, so this will have to be found elsewhere.

Driver name : Bison WebCam_V6.96.0.06-WHQL

Customer : Acer

Support model : BN2QA350K8SD910B & Samsung S5K4AA UVC & OV7670 UVC

Date : 2006-12-06 12:07

Version : 6.96.0.06

Description : Separate Vista driver from XP driver

Camera driver for (non UVC)Samsung S5K83A WHQL in Vista 32(6.32.0.04b)?B Vista 64(6.64.0.04b)

(UVC) Samsung S5K4AA WHQL in Vista 32(6.32.703.02)?BVista 64(6.64.703.01)

(UVC) OV7670 WHQL in Vista 32(6.32.700.01)?BVista 64(6.64.700.01)

You might find a working Vista x64 driver here, there's one listed at the bottom of the page from MSI. It's worth a shot.

For the Logitech camera, Acer has left the Vista x64 driver intact in their package. The below is taken from one of the .inf files.

[Logitech.NTamd64.6.0]

%PID_0892_DD%=PID_0892.VISTA64,USB\VID_046D&PID_0892 ; OrbiCam

%PID_0896_DD%=PID_0896.VISTA64,USB\VID_046D&PID_0896 ; OrbiCam

From what I've read, using the driver/software package from Logitech provides more control (more settings to play with) over the camera.

For the Suyin camera, the .inf files clearly show support for XP x64 and below. Hopefully this isn't the one the OP has.

The good news is for the Logitech and Bison cams, the drivers are out there. Just have to find them.
