0 jason13524
Why is the MS product so good? It just does its job, its light weight and no stupid dalogue boxes to worry about. Its what an AV product should be, it just does its job and does it well. 0 DaveGreen
I voted Microsoft Security Essentials: free, fast, safe. P.s. If MSE wasn't there I would have voted AVG. 0 goretsky Supervisor Posted April 5, 2010 Supervisor Share Posted April 5, 2010 Hello, You can use ESET NOD32 Antivirus and Microsoft Windows Defender at the same time, but not ESET NOD32 Antivirus and Microsoft Security Essentials, as this can cause conflicts and performance issues. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky Can I run NOD32 and MS Security at the same time? 0 unintentional
Microsoft Security Essentials really excels in detecting malware the second it appears on your machine. I downloaded an infected file and it was found immediately without me needing to manually scan it. It's also really light on system resources and very fast.:D When I need to remove or run a deep scan for malware, Security Essentials doesn't always find things, so I just use Malwarebytes, which is free and excellent at detection and removal, but not very fast. (Avoid Spybot Search and Destory like the plague! It has a bogus "TeaTimer.exe" process that hogs system resources and frequently crashes machines!) These two make a great AV combo. Would highly recommend to anybody!;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/861052-definitive-best-antivirus-2010/page/7/#findComment-592473086 Share on other sites

0 Zeet
Gotta go with NOD32. The only thing that I've seen perform better(but detects more false positives) is Avira. 0 dark41
Avast 5 free for me. I like being able to turn the various components off/on, the fact that it just works, and is a light program. Haven't had a conflict with any other software of anti-spyware so far. All I can say for people who vote for Nod32 is that they must not run much on their computers. It conflicts with way too many things on my computer. If it wasn't for that, I would still be using it. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/861052-definitive-best-antivirus-2010/page/7/#findComment-592641574 Share on other sites
0 Churma
Well said... I've been using MSE since beta and it has excelled in doing its job. Now a lot of friends of mine use MSE. It IS lightweight, fast and it does not cause a CPU usage spike. One of the best products from Microsoft in years. MSE FTW! How did you get so many infections??? Blows my mind. Hahaha the user was prob using p2p programs. BTW I use MSE. Have not been infected in years but it makes me laugh at the peeps who state I don't need to use AV. There will always be a hole someplace. Very ignorant like most, but not all Apple users. Just my thoughts... 0 Nagisan
I am changing my vote from MSE to Avira (or, AntiVir, if thats what you wish to call it). I had MSE miss some viruses on my thumb drive, and even miss a duplicate virus after it found and removed it once. I am willing to deal with more false positives (anything that I know may or may not be safe, I run through other AV software, despite what my main AV says about it, to avoid misses and false positives) if it means it will catch more potential threats. I am also willing to deal with a popup every now and then if it means my system is better protected. I used to love MSE, but seeing it miss a few viruses and miss one it just finished removing that was re-created, sort of left a bad taste in my mouth. EDIT: Also, the viruses that MSE originally missed were the first couple I have had in YEARS (a few years ago, I got a license for NOD32, installed it every few months and did a scan and nothing ever came up), and, it missed them for at least a few days (and even completely ignored a known-infected file at the time). No clue how it got on my system in the first place, but I am as careful as can be and was surprised to see the issues pop up when they did (they were not active infected files on my system, though, they were files sitting on my thumb drive which I had no knowledge of that were infected). 0 calimike
I can't believe MSE is fail to got rid of Trojan:Win32/FakeSpyPro aka AntiSpyware Soft. My old PC is infect with stupid aggressor ads virus. MSE got rid of it but its still there after re-boot. Someone told me to download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and scan is running. MBAM finally killed them and my old pc is running smooth. I already reported to MSE about infect. I hope they're going to improve MSE. I heard some Norton users got rid of antispyware soft without problem. My old pc (Windows Vista 32-bit) is with MSE. And my new PC (Windows 7 64-bit) is running Norton Internet Security 2010. My new PC with NIS2010 can got rid of antispyware soft very easy for test purpose only. 0 UndergroundWire
I vote for Norton Internet Security 2010 / 2011. It is the best paid for Internet security suit. Symantec has completely rebuilt this software from the ground up since 2008 and is now incredibly light on the system resources and not as bloated as it used to be prior to 2008. What I especially like about NIS 2010 is the Pulse updates which updates every 5 to 15 minutes so you are always secure. But if you are on a budget and don't have the money to spend on software, my pic for the best free software is Microsoft Security Essentials. Have not been infected in years but it makes me laugh at the peeps who state I don't need to use AV. There will always be a hole someplace. Very ignorant like most, but not all Apple users. 0 UKDarkJedi
Have literally just switched from Avast (not 5, not sure what version, maybe 3.2?) to MSE and quite frankly I can already feel the difference in memory usage and idle cpu usage as well. MSE would definitely get my vote (if I hadn't null voted to see what everyone thought was so good in the poll).
