Reputation system enabled & explained

Nobody can also give rep points for members in the banned or restricted groups, they are there for a reason!

Now in the banned I can understand because well they are banned :p but in the restricted groups?

@petrossa - the stars in your profile are a rating. People can rate you just like they would a thread.

And the All New Rep system? Are they linked.??Even more confused now.

Guess i don't have time to live, i'll go the easy way and bribe an admin.?

No, they're separate. iirc the user rating already existed before the upgrade.

And which way do you influence that rating then? And why would you?

You must admit its rather confusing all this.?

I have to say at its current state the rep system isn't really useful to normal users, but I am sure it will/can probably be modified to be of some usefulness to us :)

You have to view a person's profile to rate them. Just place your cursor over the stars depending on how many stars you want to rate them.

Oh. Didn't know that. Probably because i never wondered why until this new rep system came about. But it still leaves me confused. What is the new rep system adding to that? Or does it replace it? Does the one influence to other? And what do postcount stars add to the whole picture? The postcount itself is there too. Also if i reply to each and every thread with just: you are right, you are wrong my post count will mount. So what does it mean in general?

Well, the rep system is useful if someone replies to a topic and assisted you with a problem, or posts something you really liked giving you the ability to give a member a positive reputation.

Topic ratings are the same but don't add to the posters reputation level, because topic ratings can be rated up and down by numerous members.

Post stars (above the group name in posts) are simply the number of posts the member has contributed to the board.

Essentially everything is the same, but the rep system adds a karma rating for individual members, the more helpful they are to you personally allows you to rep them, and eventually a high reputation level shows others that the member is doing a good job around here :p

Example: If I answered your question here, you could rep me for that ;)

Yeah brownie points :p Thats what I've accumulated already, the only way to rep someone is on the actual post itself, bottom right like shown in the image.

Ah good point, maybe that also calculates based on the reputation level, no idea mate. But it could also be to do with the average rating of your threads.

just had a look but it seems you can rate a user too in their profile. I'm pretty sure thats separate from reputation level.

You should add some sort of system, so a high-repped post will 'stand out', bit like the birthday hack you have going, then a post with more than 15-20 + Reps will get a very subtle gold background or something like that.

Would be sweet.

Yeah it is seperate... before if someone liked your posts they could go to your profile and rate you as a user by choosing between 0 to 5 stars.

Phew finally i got it. So posting a lot gets you merit as a participating user. Posting good posts gets you merit for your posts and being a likable type gets you merit as a user.

Well there goes my hopes for the future

This is enough, helps keep things clean.
