Works fine on Windows 7 x64 here too. Great little app. Some recommendations here:

1. Please make the Always on Top behaviour an option.

2. Create a Window taskbar icon when it runs so I can set my focus on it.

3. Create a config .ini file in the same folder as the .exe to save the location of the last opened folder where I store my start orbs bitmaps. Could save me a lot of clicking each time I wish to change the orb :)

Nonetheless, thanks a lot for the app! Much appreciated.

@Sulphy

Have you installed Windows 7 on C drive?

Heya Kishan... Win7 is indeed installed on C: .... tried it again today, rebooted a few times... to no avail :no:

My error log :

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.

~Okay......... got it to work!!!!!!!!!

Don't run the app from the desktop, if the first error kicks in, start the tool up again, and choose a different start orb image...!!!!!

All groovy now!!!! :)

Thanks for a funky change! Looking forward to updates..... and if anyone is making new orbs... think that we should start a post somewhere where people can download them???? What do you guys think?

I am running Windows 7 64 bit and I found a way around the error.

1) Run the Orb Changer as Administrator

2) Open Up Task Manager and kill all instances of explorer.exe

3) Select your new start button and apply

4) Restart Explorer from Task Manager

Repeat as necessary until you get one that you like.

Worked for me too, although I'm running 32-bit

@buzz99

Try the following:

1. Run the tool as administrator and click on "Select & Change Start Button".

2. Select your start orb bitmap. If the error comes then click Continue and select the start orb bitmap again. Again if the error comes then click Exit.

3. Run the tool again and repeat Step 1 & 2.

  • 1 month later...

Windows 7 Start Button v 2.0 has been released. The update fixes some minor bugs and eliminates the use of the file ?r.exe? which was required in v 1.0. It is now a stand-alone single .exe file.
