Rappy Veteran Posted August 29, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2010 Skysports.com understands that Tottenham have lodged a bid for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young. Harry Redknapp is determined to bolster his squad ahead of the transfer deadline on Tuesday, especially after earning qualification to the UEFA Champions League group phase. He has been linked with several top players and has never hidden his admiration for England international Young. Speculation about the 25-year-old's future has increased since Martin O'Neill's departure from Villa earlier this month and the club's recent exit from Europe. Redknapp has previously admitted that it would be difficult to prise Young away from Villa but Spurs are now thought to have tested their resolve with an offer of ?16million. Villa have yet to respond to the proposal and Tottenham will have to work quickly if they are to push through a deal in the next couple of days. Rappy Veteran Posted August 29, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2010 Skysports.com understands Real Madrid could be set to beat Liverpool to PSV Eindhoven hot-shot Ola Toivonen Toivonen is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Europe after impressing for club and country over the last year. Liverpool have been tracking the Swedish international all summer and are believed to have had one bid rejected by PSV earlier this month. Reds boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed his interest in Toivonen as he searches to bring in a new forward before the close of the transfer window. However, Spanish giants Real are believed to have joined the chase for Toivonen with Jose Mourinho's side making an enquiry for the Swede. Liverpool were tipped to make a new move for Toivonen before Tuesday's transfer deadline, but it appears Real may have stolen a march on the Merseysiders by declaring their interest in the player. Toivonen missed Sunday's draw with ADO Den Haag to fuel rumours of a possible move away from PSV.

Rappy Veteran Posted August 29, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2010 Sky Sports News understands that Liverpool have made an enquiry about West Ham striker Carlton Cole. Reds manager Roy Hodgson is looking to bolster his attacking options before the transfer deadline on Tuesday and has identified Cole as a potential target. Contact has been made with the Hammers but Liverpool's pursuit of the player is still at an early stage and it is unclear whether they will be able to strike a deal. Avram Grant has previously stated that he does not want to sell the striker, while Cole himself has declared that he expects to stay at Upton Park. But it is not surprising that the 26-year-old has attracted interest after establishing himself as an effective Premier League performer. Cole and his West Ham team-mates have had little success this season, though, losing their first three games to lie bottom of the table.

Rappy Veteran Posted August 30, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted August 30, 2010 Javier Mascherano has completed his ?17.25m move from Liverpool to Barcelona after passing a medical with the Spanish giants on Monday. The 26-year-old Argentina captain underwent a five-hour "exhaustive" review, according to Barcelona's team doctor Ricard Pruna. "The truth is it's a dream, it's a great joy," Mascherano told Barca TV. "It is a great club with great players and I will try to adapt as quickly as I possibly can," added the star. Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has criticised the player's attitude labelling the switch as "selfish". "Players have got something they want to do and they just expect the club to bow down and accept it," he said. "Unfortunately there are going to be periods of time when there will be some unpleasantness because players must also understand that when you sign contracts you sign contracts to play." The transfer had been drawn out by Liverpool's insistence on recouping the ?18m they paid for former River Plate midfielder Mascherano when he arrived from West Ham. The Anfield outfit had rejected an initial bid of ?16m from Barcelona but he subsequently missed the Premier League defeat to Manchester City and the trip to Trabzonspor, where Liverpool secured a place in the group stages of the Europa League with a 3-1 aggregate win. Rappy Veteran Posted August 31, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted August 31, 2010 Sky Sports News understands Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer will not be joining Arsenal before the end of the current transfer window. The 37-year-old shot-stopper has been the subject of a long transfer saga this summer, and the Australian was widely tipped to sign for the Gunners after strong interest from Arsene Wenger. Fulham have rejected two bids for the experienced keeper, the latter a ?4million offer, and Schwarzer was keen to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium. Cottagers boss Mark Hughes even launched an attempt to land Manchester City's Shay Given, preparing for an imminent departure from Schwarzer. However, City boss Roberto Mancini has persuaded Given to stay at Eastlands, dealing Arsenal's hopes a blow. Schwarzer is now set to remain at Fulham and could return between the sticks for their next game against Wolves on 11th September.
