Setnom
I used to use a theme with Beryl called Scaled_Black_Mod. It sounds like it suits your needs perfectly. Ah, that's a nice find. Altough its borders are a bit too fat for my taste. I've been using gnome-colors, have you heard of it? It's an excellent theme. And with beautiful icons. The guys at Canonical should adopt this project. And yes, make those corners squared! :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/877006-ubuntu-to-finally-drop-human-theme/page/3/#findComment-592265592 Share on other sites

.Neo
Hopefully they'll be able to give it a more or less unique look that says "Ubuntu" instead of just poorly cloning Windows / Mac OS X like some Linux distros have done. Growled Member Posted February 21, 2010 Member Share Posted February 21, 2010 Will the new theme finally make Ubuntu like a modern OS, or will it be stuck in 1995? :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/877006-ubuntu-to-finally-drop-human-theme/page/3/#findComment-592266102 Share on other sites
rawr_boy81
The cost of licensing is higher on the MP3 technology. MP3 -> encoding + decoding + streaming/distribution AAC -> encoding + decoding but from what I understand streaming/distribution will be coming in as well - they held off on charging it because they wanted to get some traction before the full costs come into play. For me, I couldn't care about the legality of it - patents aren't my problem nor has it ever kept me awake at night. Syanide
Ubuntu To Make Big Announcement Tomorrow?Wednesday, February 24, 2010 Word has reached my ears that tomorrow, at around 18:00 UTC, a big announcement concerning the branding of Ubuntu will be made. Branding Whilst my source wishes to remain anonymous he did divulge that the announcement has "something to do with..." the branding of Ubuntu and/or Canonical, the colour scheme used for them and "possibly the logo". The Ubuntu Single Sign-On logo; a taste of what's to come? Lucid's new theme He does state that it will "definitely" touch upon the default theme and colour scheme to be used in Ubuntu 10.04. This ties in with Mark Shuttleworths revelation a few days back: - "We've been Human for the last five years and now we're going to be light oriented." Of course, tomorrow does see the release of Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3 and any changes to the look and 'feel' of the OS are better included sooner rather than later. We have already seen a move to a lighter style of Ubuntu branding with the Ubuntu Single Sign-on service. Music Store The announcement may also contain an "official" announcement on the partnership between 7Digital and Ubuntu in the UbuntuOne Music Store. So far the "news" that 7Digital is partnering with Ubuntu has only been revealed through some leaked screenshots and with the Music Store due to land proper in Alpha 3 it would be the perfect time to announce this fully. bjoswald
A "big announcement", eh? How exciting (no sarcasm)! I really love what Canonical is doing for Linux right now. Syanide
Yeah, people might criticise them a lot, but they're really pushing Linux out there. Let's see if they have something to show for! I'm super hyped for some reason :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/877006-ubuntu-to-finally-drop-human-theme/page/3/#findComment-592276856 Share on other sites
ichi
I used to think the same, but I was wrong. These patents affects several countries: USA, Mexico, Canada, EU, India, Japan, Korea, Argentina, Brasil, Singapore, China, Russia, Malaysia... I don't know about most of the other countries, but software patents in the EU? That would be news to me. Motoko.
I personally always thought people hated the theme not the color itself. But I welcome this new "light" theme, it looks like a step in the right direction. Is it natural for a Windows 7 64bit user to want to try to use Linux no matter how many times he has reformated his disk to Windows after a month or so? I always get so excited for a Ubuntu release and I acknowledge its improvements but it always feels it's not good enough for me yet. Syanide
I think you sort of answered your question, if you keep coming back to it, Windows is definitely for you. At least on desktop (assuming you don't run it on a laptop/netbook already?). I'd just use a netbook or an older computer to play with it if I were you. Right now I just got this new ASUS P501J-X2 with a 4500MHD igp and a 1.3mp web cam. All I really do on this thing is play music, watch movies, take notes, open word and ppt files, and skype via mic. I use to mess with Photoshop CS4 but I'm doing even less of that lately. I guess a solid option would be to use a Live Disc and see how that rolls. It's not to diss MS when I say this but in the back of my mind I never feel safe using Windows. Granted Win7 is the best Windows I've used and I like it but It's only when I use Linux I have this "peace of mind" that I can't get when I run Windows. +Frank B. Subscriber² Posted March 3, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted March 3, 2010 Seen on Ars Technica: Ubuntu dumps the brown, introduces new theme and branding Canonical has revealed the new default theme that will be used in Ubuntu 10.04, the next major version of the popular Linux distribution. In a significant departure from tradition, Ubuntu is shedding its signature brown color scheme and is adopting a new look with a palette that includes orange and an aubergine shade of purple. .Neo
I honestly can't put my finger on it as to why exactly, but somehow those themes don't come nowhere near the level of refinement of both Mac OS X' Aqua and Windows Aero. Can't even call this a real improvement, it looks like some different image files were slapped onto the same old stuff. Like applying an enthusiasts theme to some browser. And really, pixelated corners in 2010...?! Wow. Lannister
looks better than what they have at the moment, although I'm not a fan of the min/max/close buttons on the left. That seems like change for change sake. Serenity76
It looks like they are just making it non-default. Despite the image in the first post with the crossed-off theme, it does not sound like it is being completely removed from the wording. Dunno why they couldn't just add a section into the installer to select a theme. Probably end a lot of the complaints over the poo brown scheme, and it's not like Ubuntu doesn't ship with a few themes installed already. Wow. I know. I usually load a squared variation just to avoid the pixelation.
