How to fix hijacked .LNK files / restore them in Win 7?

I didn't have (don't know why) System Restore enabled (or set to 0%)

and at first with your long explanation I was like wacko.gif , but then I used your other method which was my last resort, didn't work at first, gave me an access denied warning,

so I killed the explorer process, did that thing again, restarted the process and boom!
