Krpano Popular Post
I was waiting to see if some other fellow, more skilled than men, neowinian would go for the HTC Desrie review. Since nobody seems to go for it ill try. Consider this more like a user insight to help those thinking about getting this device, if you want a indepth review there is quite a few around the web made by professionals. The package: The box is really small and the picture of the device on the box is in real size The content: Inside you find: manual, headphones, wall charger, USB cable (which must be used to connect to PC or the wall charger), battery and the phone with the 4GB MicroSD inside. No install CD or what so ever, apparently there is the software bundled inside the MicroSD, i formated and didnt check (sorry). The contract and price i got: I went for the 60.-/month > 1GB data > 0.10-/sms > Free calls (excpet to cellphones of other networks) The HTC Desire costed me 199.- with this 1 year contract. I wanted to go for the full unlimited for 125.- but i still have a mobile data plan for my notebook valid till september 2010, soo once i cancel this one i can extend the cellphone plan to unlimited. The exterior: The front with its 5 dedicated buttons Home / Menu / Optical Tracking / Return / Search The back is really sleek and elegant with a soft rubber feeling very pleasant. Size comparison: Who here remember that one ? :) The Screen: It is extremelly bright and sharp, you can see at pratially any angle without any noticeable loss. Very resposive too, you barely need to touch to use it. Features: Unlock Pattern I like this one. It will protect the access to your phone and its really easy and fast to use. it is displayed each time you light up the screen. HTC UI Pinch out one of the primary screens give you this view for quick access, You can also move around by swiping of using the Optical Track. Youtube Widget. Very fast and neat. You can also access youtube by using the browser. Yes, it has Flash support. Camera I would say the camera quality is fair, i've seen much worse Sample resized Video Here is a small sample i took outside my balcony: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eZU1_zD5a4 The video was taken and uploaded directly from the phone to my Youtube account. It gives you a warning saying that big files will only be uploaded by WiFi. Music Player This is the HTC widget for the player, they have a smaller version which takes only half the screen so you can add more stuff on the same view. At this point ill maybe stop with the pics otherwise it will be too long. My take on the device is; At this moment i doubt you could find another cellphone this good. I have used and tested quite a few before deciding, which took me 2 weeks, and i couldnt be happier with my choice. Im sure other owners here will say the same. The integration with Gmail and the contact list is outstanding. You have a feature like this: You see the little green circle on the top right indicates that it has found some link between the person i have in my SIM and the contacts on my gmail account and once oyu click the green circle it gives you the options to link both. Typing texts is amazing. Extremely responsive. Wide view is even better to type Didnt have much time to test the battery life. Sorry about that. One thing i noticed is how the phone wont heat up too much. I mean, it's lightly warm but far from the burn sensation i had with other devices, even when connected to the power source and wifi on. Ok, ill stop now. I could go on and on. Sorry if i didnt do as good as other reviewers here. Other owners are welcome to post their feelings about the Desire and post more pics. If there is some questions i'll be happy to answer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYyD-GPgaYA with soundtrack to help pass the time. :) Edited April 17, 2010 by Krpano djdanster, Steven P., redeemed and 25 others 28 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/893008-htc-desire/ Share on other sites

tsupersonic
Nice review, this is the phone I've been waiting for: AMOLED, Android, 1GHz Snapdragon, or possibly Win. Phone 7 for Zune integration. hjf288
Is scrolling in the browser laggy/jerky like it is on the DROID? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/893008-htc-desire/#findComment-592501478 Share on other sites
Krpano
Thx guys. About the browsing experience, its is perfect without laggy/jerky effects. You (may) notice some lag with lots of images and if you try to scroll full speed, the first time only. But who does that while browsing ? It renders pages almost as fast as my desktop.. :) I am uploading a video to Youtube with some browsing testing. I'll post here once it's done. ElectricDemon
Trying not to 'thread jack', I can confirm how awesome the phone is, I've got a Nexus One (same specs, but without the Sense UI). These devices are awesome and fast! Ditched my iPhone 3GS for mine and have never looked back since! AbandonedTrolley
I want one, things stopping me so far are the cost and the fact I would need to repurchase my Co-Pilot licence. All together I would be looking at around ?400, currently can get ?140 for recycling my Touch HD so it's certainly tempting. Krpano
I wanted a Nexus One so bad.....but unfortunately no Operator got them. here somethin interesting i found out. When you click and hold at the end of a text block it will automatically select it and a popup box will open with 3 choices 1. copy to clipboard 2. Search: Wikipedia or Translate or Dictionary 3. Share: Friend Stream or Mail or Message or Twiter If you click and hold in the middle of the text bock or a specific word it will open a zoom box with the words you are selecting. The green dots can be dragged at will Neat stuff. I see me! I want this phone so much at the moment :-/ don't know whether to just pick it up on a 24 month deal and suck up the ?450 cost over 2 years and not actually use the SIM itself. Krpano
^ yeah i know the problem there. I've been holding myself to the end of my contract so i could get a good price for the renewing. This time i opted to pay a bit more and make a shorter contract, 12 months now (24 before). For me the good part is that now i have 2 contracts like this, the other one belong to my wife but since she doesnt care about cellphones, each year i get me a new phone and give her my old one. hjf288
Can you run that multitouch tester and see whether it suffers from the same problem as the nexus one? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/893008-htc-desire/#findComment-592516564 Share on other sites
Mwnci
I've got one too. Quite how you can have a phone like this with no ability to add Wifi proxy settings defeats me though. Big flaw as far as I'm concerned. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/893008-htc-desire/#findComment-592516570 Share on other sites
Krpano
Can you run that multitouch tester and see whether it suffers from the same problem as the nexus one? Yes, i checked that software and it reproduces the same "problem" as the video Motorola Droid vs Nexus One: Multitouch Test. Maybe this could affect some specific application but i haven't noticed any glitch while using the multi-touch screen in normal usage. edit here: i did a short video with some multi-touch gestures and that software so you can see by yourself. indeed, it's odd. i'll post as soon as i finish the upload to YT. Chicane-UK Veteran Posted April 20, 2010 Veteran Share Posted April 20, 2010 Great review - thanks for sharing. Finally got my order in for one of these after a month of being messed around by T-Mobile and then waiting on stock with Vodafone. A friend beat me to it in the mean time.. but I tried his out and just can't believe how good it is. Looks as though it's going to walk all over my iPhone in most areas (except battery life) so can't wait to get it :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/893008-htc-desire/#findComment-592518144 Share on other sites
Krpano
Thx....:) Ok here it goes the video with the multi-touch run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhBRMaUn6Ig One thing i can assure, i haven't felt any troube while using the phone and its functions so far.....i have never realized this "glitch" with the multi-touch input till i used that app to check. But you can see that in the multi-touch paint it gets weird, i believe if there is a game that requires multiple inputs it may cause some odd effects. I am very satisfied with the device so far. For the battery i can't vouch for that, still need a couple of days to get a real feedback. It seems it will need almost a week till the battery is at its full capacity.
