My bro wants to upgrade the SD card, so is an 8GB better than a 16GB then?

EDIT: On eBay, 16GB Class 6 cards are going for around ?30-35, are they no good then?

Class 6 is class 6, doesn't matter about the size of the card.

I have a class 2 card and it's fine, so class 6 should be more than fast enough :)

This phone looks fantastic. I've been hearing nothing but good things about it.

I'd love to make this my next upgrade, but they don't carry it on my network (unfortunately pretty much any of the decent phones aren't my network).

Well if you can, attempt to switch over. What you can do is transfer your number over and you're good to go. Unless there's a specific reason why you can't switch I say go for it. I presume upgrades limit that.

Some person has customised a ROM which was leaked from HTC over at xdadevelopers, although it is buggy he says that the Sense UI has been ported and that HD video recording is now added.

I'll either wait for him to sort out any issues, or let HTC do the offical one as well. Whatever comes first.

There is a guide to root Here

Once you have rooted, I would recommend flashing a permanent recovery image using unrEVOked

Then simply put the zip of whatever rom it is you wish to install onto your SD card, and flash it from recovery (to enter recovery turn your phone off, then boot into bootloader mode with vol down + power, and use the volume up and down keys to navigate, and power to select recovery)

It is actually a lot more simple to root than it may appear, most of the process is automated by the scripts Paul has included.

Thanks for the help Subject Delta - I managed to root and install OpenDesire 1.5 without a problem. Man 2.2 is a much better OS and I prefer the new default look over Sense (although I do miss the widgets).

Edit: just installed an APK of Fancy Widget - all is right in the world again.

The best thing to do is to sign up for an ad free subscription over at Modaco, (?9.99/year IIRC) and use Paul's online kitchen to bake a ROM without the Sense launcher. That way, you will still keep the HTC framework, and be able to run the Sense browser, widgets, phone, contact, and gallery apps, but still use the stock launcher and theme

Hmm, it's harder to find one than I first thought.

To be honest, I've not seen an unbranded black one anyway. My bro bought his sim-free and his is a darkish brown. Doesn't look too bad.

indeed, that's the choice..

keep the black one, be a bit unique and put up with an orange logo on the back

get another 'normal' one, brown perhaps.. or mebbe silver and sell the black one again..

can't decide :)

I took the plunge and rooted my Desire too, after that I decided I wanted Android 2.2 so flashed the DJ Droid rom which allowed me to keep the HTC Sense interface :)

I also changed the launcher to the one included with the Evo 4G, Everything appears to work pretty well so far, 720p video recording is a bit poor... around 16-18 fps at the moment. Apparently that is been worked on, however its not a show stopper by any means.

The portable Wi-Fi hotspot feature will also be very handy to have.

I'm very happy with my rooted Desire at the moment (Y)
