Meet Firefox 4.0.1

Recommended Posts

yeah I know. But I meant by default, is it now on the right side.

Yes, it's on the right by default now. It's supposed to connect to the bookmarks button eventually, too. I've already done my complaining about that. :p

I've moved mine back to the left, but it's kind of annoying that it goes back to the right after each update in the nightlies (as well as my stop/reload combo).

I get this when trying to launch Firefox 4.0 beta 8 build 1 on OS X:

Both with the existing profile and a fresh profile. Minefield on the other hand continues to work.

Ok, located the cause of the problem: I had downloaded the en-GB version at first. Replacing it with the en-US version did the trick.

my add-ons are now on the bottom left and they added a "x" to tell me i can close the add-on bar....yeah I can close it but then I can't get to my add-ons... sigh more pointless ui changes.

Right click on the toolbar, click Customise then click on Restore. Them being on the left is a bug due to a change they made (the "spring" was hidden, they changed that and it broke the layout until you reset it)

Just as a heads-up: As of today the nightly builds sport the version number 4.0b9pre. Don't be too surprised if some of your add-ons break.

how to patch a build? i wanna patch my firefox with https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455694

Essentially, for 99.9% of people, you can't. The description of how to do so would be so involved, it's really just not worth it: either move to nightlies and await it landing, become part of the mozilla dev community, or wait for public releases.

here is the release schedule for beta 8:

code freeze on mozilla-central complete

build1 available December 15 in progress / on track

QA signoff December 20 in progress

relnotes published December 20 in development

websites pushed December 20 waiting

release announced December 21 estimated

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_4.0b8

so there you have it.. its gonna be a bit before its officially released.

Oh, they updated the schedule, thanks man. Well, as soon as they sign a build I'll get it. No point in waiting till tuesday ^^

engineering teams are engaging in The Great Re-triage of all existing blockers

* already 100 bugs taken off the list

* focus is on cutting back feature set and shipping what we have

* may move some features to be behind preferences in order to get to completion

* will be able to estimate time to product completion after this

could this mean that we will get firefox 4 final sooner now? still possibly in Q1 2011? i hope so :D

If it ships in Q1 it'll be more like a RC, imo... Needs a bit more work.

indeed... I discovered some basic function bugs that leave me wondering how it got so far to be a beta and not a nightly alpha or something. :/
