LOC Veteran Popular Post Posted May 12, 2010 Veteran Popular Post Share Posted May 12, 2010 Portal used to cost money. Until May 24th, it's free. End of story. Well, technically speaking, there are some strings attached. Fortunately, they're entirely decorative. We just like the way they look, swaying in the gentle breeze created by a million people simultanously fainting from shock at the news that Portal is free. Now you have no reason not to try Portal. "I have a reason," some of you are probably typing into an angry email. "You see, sir, I own a Mac." Well guess what: For the first time ever, Portal is also available for the Mac. "Capitol news! But the excellent puzzle adventure Portal won over 40 Game of the Year awards; Surely it must cost at least five or six hundred dollars." You'd think that, especially since it actually won over 70 Game of the Year Awards. But, like we keep saying, Portal is free. Free on the Mac. Free on the PC. But only until May 24th. So you only have a few days to decide if your free copy of Portal is worth the price we're currently charging - which is you ever-so-slightly moving your index finger just barely enough to click the big red "download" button right there to the left. Free Portal Page Portal Store page (just click on the green Install button and you got Portal) Enjoy :) TheRealDave, Denis W., Green_Eye and 30 others 33 Share

PsyOpWarlord
So it's only free until the 24th and then you have to buy it or stop? It sounds more like it's only a trial and not really "free".
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted May 12, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted May 12, 2010 Praised be Valve. Special deals like this make me love them even more. Now finish TF2 for OS X and I'll personally fly to Seattle and hug Gabe Newell.
Chasethebase Reporter Posted May 12, 2010 Reporter Share Posted May 12, 2010 edit: tried to get it but it wants me to install steam. thanks anyways. That's the whole point, Steam is Valve's main storefront and second engine for other games, used to launch their games and it has an online community, friends lists, achievements. Think of it as Xbox Live for the PC & Mac, but far better. And it's free forever, not a trial, not a free weekend style. It's free, forever. To those who download it now anyway. As Chasethebase said, it's kinda the point that you have to install Steam. You can't get Portal for free otherwise. So it's only free until the 24th and then you have to buy it or stop? It sounds more like it's only a trial and not really "free". No, it's free forever once you get it now, but once the 24th comes along the game will go back to it's normal price and not be available for free anymore. Nagisan
Very awesome, was going to post this myself but I had company over for a short time which delayed the post. Played portal on my friends account and what not, but never had a copy of my own, been craving a copy of it for myself, and here lately been wanting to get it just to do some of the downloadable maps. Sadly I do not have the money to buy it normally, very happy Valve decided to do this, this is the exact reason Valve is one of the best developers ever (even with Blizzard IMO, Blizzard might be slightly ahead in game quality, but Valve is awesome none-the-less). Thanks Valve!

LOC Veteran Posted May 12, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted May 12, 2010 So it's an FPS/Puzzle game? Yup, one of the better ones of the past few years. And there are alot of levels/maps you can download as well.
Nagisan
So it's an FPS/Puzzle game? Basically, but it was done very well as you have control of a portal (well, 2 ends of a portal) that you have to use to solve to puzzles, so they can be very difficult at times. If I refresh I get: Failed to load web page (unknown error).-324 Failed to load web page (unknown error). Could it be they are hammered or am I doing something wrong?
