How to change an XP CD from OEM to Retail and vice versa.

Note: These instructions cannot be used to turn an OEM or Retail installation disc into a corporate version. This only works on Retail and OEM media.

This is a pretty simple procedure. It just consists of editing an ini file on the XP installation cd.

The file you want is called setupp.ini (with 2 p’s) and is located in the i386 directory of the cd.

Once you open the file, locate the Pid line. Replace the pid numbers with one of the numbers below depending on what kind of XP license you wish to use.

• OEM - Pid=82503OEM

• Retail - Pid=51882335 / Pid=55274000

To make it easier i'd recommend dumping the xp cd into an ISO. Then use an application like ultraiso to edit the file. That way you can open the iso, edit the file and then re-save the changes back into the iso.

Now you don’t have to go hunting for an OEM cd to reinstall XP on a Dell, Gateway or any other OEM machine and vice versa if you already have a Windows XP Install cd (Assuming its not a corporate version)
