+InsaneNutter MVC Posted June 12, 2010 MVC Share Posted June 12, 2010 The guys over at XboxHacker have obtained a dump of a memory card that allows an Xbox 360 to boot in to Manufacturing Mode, from what I can gather this appears to be a mode that will test various aspects of an Xbox 360 when a faulty console is returned to Microsoft. If you have followed the PSP hacking scene this might remind you of the Pandora Battery which allowed the PSP to boot in to service mode and then be flashed with custom firmware. To function Manufacturing Mode requires a connection to a server running on a network, as we dont have access to a server this is pretty much useless at the moment. Xbox 360 hacker Tiros says "this is nothing new" and the "whole thing is a dead end", however never say never... who knows what is around the corner? DoDonpachi
Interesting stuff I must admit, It reminds me of the PS2 memory card exploit that was discovered towards the end of the PS2's shelf life. It would be nice to have an easy way to remove the region protection on the 360 and launch homebrew without opening the 360 up. I guess Pandora's Memory Card for the Xbox 360 might be possible one day, little parts of the 360 keep getting hacked here and there (Y) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/909858-xbox-360-memory-units-used-to-trigger-manufacturing-mode-on-the-360/#findComment-592743854 Share on other sites
MillionVoltss
Anyone sniffing the network cable for an ip or packet data yet ? Would be able to do a false request maybe and see what data is returned unless its a LAN request and useless without access. Most likely if it needs to update the systems firmware etc that everything would be downloaded from a server in the factory. It would make sense in that regard. Centrally managed. +Warwagon MVC Posted January 15, 2011 MVC Share Posted January 15, 2011 Sorry for the bump, but what if someone put a homebrew file on the memory card and renamed to what the xbox is looking for, to run manufacturing mode? Would it run the homebrew instead? Would it run the homebrew instead? No. The memory card just has some data on it that tells the xbox to contact a server and go into service mode. Nothing on the card is being run. The code being run is either on the xbox already or on that server. Oh, I thought since the file was 5 megs in size that it was the actual app. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/909858-xbox-360-memory-units-used-to-trigger-manufacturing-mode-on-the-360/#findComment-593595480 Share on other sites
