World Cup 2010: South Africa ponders vuvuzela ban

These things really suck, Dutch supporters are know for there singing to support there team but you can't even here them.

The referees should just say screw it, get rid of these things or i'll stop the game.

The referee should be able to communicate with the players without using smoke signals!!!

World Cup 2010: Organisers will not ban vuvuzelas

World Cup organisers say they will not ban vuvuzelas from stadiums in South Africa, despite numerous complaints.

The sound of the plastic horn has been likened to the drone of a thousand bees or a herd of stampeding elephants.

Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo says the noise affects player concentration, while some fans watching on television claim they cannot hear the commentary.

But a World Cup spokesman insisted vuvuzelas are "ingrained in the history of South Africa" and will remain.

Rich Mkhondo also said vuvuzelas had worldwide appeal.

"Let us not make this a South Africa instrument alone," he said. "A vuvuzela is now an international instrument. People buy them and stuff them in their suitcase to go home.

"Only a minority are against vuvuzelas. You either love them or hate. We in South Africa love them."

England defender Jamie Carragher said the noise did not bother him when he came on as a half-time substitute during the 1-1 draw with the United States and he said he had already bought two to take home to his children in Liverpool.

I have always said that Africa has a different rhythm, a different sound

Fifa president Sepp Blatter

"When I came on I didn't notice it too much. I think you notice it more when you are watching on TV," he said.

"But my kids have been on the phone and asked for two so I'll have to take two home for them. I've got two in my bag already.

"Anyone who watches me play at Anfield will know that I am louder than the vuvuzelas!"

LOL @ Carragher

Yeah we shouldnt ban them, those bloody people who cannot hear they are such whiners they dont have the right to enjoy the world cup.

I hope people just stop watching because of this then everyone will lose money in ad revenue and maybe they will think twice about letting these halfwits blow the horns again.

Remind me what cultural benefit blowing a crappy cheap plastic horn for an hour and half has?

 Please try and be a little more open minded. We are guests in their country. If they want to blow an annoying horn for the entire 90 mins, let them. But we as guests shouldn't really complain.

And it has about the same cultural benefit we get from drinking ourselves stupid during the WC, not to mention that click-clacker things we have (or did have) over here during matches.

Funny how you say im closed minded and can make that judgement purely based on the fact that i want to horns banned. Guests? they should be greatful that they were allowed to host the World Cup bringing money into the economy. As a guest i have every right to complain, every world cup until now ive been able to hear the commentators perfectly well, this year i should just shut up and ignore the fact that i cant enjoy any match now because i cant hear?

Drinking and click-clackers do not affect the concentration of the players, the ambience of the stadium or the enjoyment of the viewer watching, 90 mins of

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

does nothing to enhance the game.

Heh, I have a feeling that FIFA won't be looking at Africa in the future as a host country for a long time ;)

I'd imagine this has pretty much sunk their chances of getting any large international competitions, hopefully once South Africa get knocked out it'll stop.

I'm honestly not as annoyed as some of you in this thread.

It's football afterall all I care about is seeing the players play.

I can understand complains coming from the players or the spectators but being so annoyed sitting in front of your TV is just .. annoying.
