Office Product Key not working

Hello.

At the moment I feel slightly cheated by Microsoft. I made use of the Ultimate Steal offer to purchase Office 2010. They sent me an e-mail with a product key and I downloaded the software.

Apparently the product key is not valid even though they sent it to me.

Furthermore, they make it virtually impossible to find contact details on their website.

Does anyone know what's wrong?

Okay, I owe Microsoft an apology. It was not their fault.

I opened the beta installation instead of the new file I'd downloaded, which were in the same folder with very similar names.

So don't be put off. :D

do you mind copying the EULA for the ultimate steal license? It's not posted anywhere online and wiki says it's good for 3 computers.

This is actually really interesting. I just logged into the Ultimate Steal purchase site and they don't actually let you view the license terms prior to the purchase (only Office 2007 EULAs are available right now). So I don't immediately see how they could convince a court to enforce a contract for a purchase of Office 2010 from that site. This is only interesting because there's some bull**** on the Ultimate Steal site that says they'll force you to pay the full retail price if you fail to provide written documentation that you're actually an enrolled student. Of course, something like that would never actually go to court since everyone involved would spend tons more for the process.

However, as far as I'm aware, the Academic Edition license is identical to the retail license with an additional clause that simply states you must be "Qualified Educational User", even though it doesn't define that term in the EULA. The retail license otherwise allows you to install Office on 2 computers at the same time: a primary machine and a "portable device."

Wikipedia's assertion that it can be "licensed" on three computers comes without a source. This is exactly the kind of stuff I hate about Wikipedia.

yea that's what i thought too, anyways i added a citation needed tag to it. if it turns out to be true then all the better.

I think you have to install again with same product key. Or you want technical support.
