Windows Live Essentials 'beta' out now!

Recommended Posts

Can Pull-Facebook feeds, but can't update status in this build (No idea why :( ). And Facebook chat is not in this build due to MS saying it is a bit buggy and will be implemented later.

And Yeah, Live Mail works lovely! I love the smooth animations now and everything. Oh, also Live Movie Maker seems so much better now!

The Facebook comes up for me in the contact list, but it doesn't let me talk to anyone on Facebook over it though.

I'm trying it out now. I really hope Facebook chat support has been enabled for the beta.

As for the inablility to have custom display names - I much prefer that. Facebook do it and people don't complain, they just need to get used to it. Here's a post from an official discussing it: http://www.liveside.net/main/archive/2010/06/19/windows-live-profile-wave-4-linkedin-to-become-a-connected-service-and-display-names-to-go-away.aspx

What? They REMOVED The ability to change our name? Screw that, I will never upgrade to this. I will NOT have my full name get forced on MSN suddenly when I never had to deal with it before.

Customization is PART of what I LIKED about MSN. Name included! I use a very decorated custom name, to take this away is horrible!

Yet again, more crap taking away useful features and replacing it with facebook crap. Blizzard did this during Starcraft II beta, took away a useful naming system and forced us to hand each other our E-MAIL Addresses or FACEBOOK names.

I'm tired of everyone pushing this idea we should give away our personal information to everyone on the internet. It's a massive security issue and it seems to be more and more forced on people to do!

I don't know if anyone can help on this but here's the thing with Sync Beta and a pre-installment of Live Mesh: if you have a Windows XP and a Windows 7 PC's on your mesh, you lose it, right?

The installer says Live Mesh will be removed and that the new Sync Beta will replace it, but if you can't install it on Windows XP, what's the deal?

Cheers

Nope, it has not :( And you can't update your facebook status for the Beta either.

And Thanks for that post link :)

Another thing, it takes ages for Facebook Feeds to go through (They need auto-refresh). Like I wanted to try commenting out so told me friend to tag me in a post. It was 2 minutes ago and every refresh on WLM just brings only ones from half an hour ago :(

EDIT: Oh boy, this is slow. Just updated and brought like 1 Facebook update when like 20 updates were shown on FB

I dislike that there is no more name customization...I hope messenger plus can re-enable it.What about appearing offline to someone? Is it block or i misunderstood it?Cause the block option no more exists. And why there is a group "Appearing offline to"?It seems that is like a duplicate, like arrange the "block" contacts to a group. And what "other contacts" group is?And the virus check from options was removed..

I'm really not liking the direction Microsoft is going with Wave 4.

Everything now is essentially synced with your Windows Live Profile, something I don't want anyways. Your name, display picture, contacts, status, everything, it's all part of your profile.

I have enough profiles already. I just want a messenger client that I can sign on with, chat, and then sign off of without having to worry about stuff being published to some other profile service.

You can't even disable your profile. You either live with it or close your Live account.

Grr, drives me nuts.

Talk about shoving your services down the throats of your customers.

Edit: And why do all Windows Live sites now sign me into Messenger without asking? You can't even sign out.

So Here is Mine wlmtwit.png

I'm guessing everyone's look is similar. But on taking the screenshot... I only just noticed they had a Facebook Contacts Section! But anyway, if they have their Facebook and Live linked it will let you IM them from there. Otherwise it let's you Email or Send them a facebook message. And soon Facebook Chat.

@Andrew Lyle - How did you get Twitter on yours?!?? I can't get it on Web Activities or nothing for mine :(

Uninstalled. I wanted to have a look at where they are going with this, and I don't particularly like it. The constant use of live.com is annoying to say the least. The Facebook integration is a half-baked attempt (I understand it's beta, but give us something to test please?). I've gone back to 14. Messenger Discovery can at least connect to FB chat, so I'll stick with that.

So why does this Wave 4 beta of messenger not support jump lists and such from the Win7 taskbar whereas Wave 3 did?

It does. You can sign out and exit from the jumplist.

The status controls have been moved to the live preview.

Hey, guys just a quick question that I need some help with. Is it possible to use facebook chat on the new messenger, and just facebook? I don't want to really go through and add people etc. I just want use facebook chat through the messenger program. Any help would be appreciated.

Why in hell's name I cant modify my name?

I don't know if its ment to do that because, i asked someone if they could see my name or my old msn name, and they said it was still display my nick name and not my actual name from my profile / facebook (First, Last Name).

Why in hell's name I cant modify my name?

I think that is a bug, it was in the leaked build, the only way i could was going through my Windows Live profile.

On another note i started the installation at 9pm, and it's still going, its currently at 64%, not sure wots taking so long
