DIY Racing Game Cockpit Inside an Ottoman

500x_cockpit3.jpg

If you're a hardcore fan of racing games and prefer to use steering wheel and pedal peripherals, gamer Lyshco shows us how to enhance the experience (and keep your peripherals neatly stored) with a racing cockpit inside an ottoman.

Lyshco took a hollow ottoman with a lid and built a makeshift cockpit with an old car seat, reverse-mounted pedals, and even sliding panels so that people with shorter or longer legs can adjust the cockpit to their comfort. The peripherals sure aren't cheap, but if you're already using a bunch of them anyway, this is a pretty inexpensive and cool way to make a really cool gaming setup. And, best of all, it takes very little time to pack up and put away, so you don't have all your peripherals cluttering up your living room. Check out the guide for more photos and instructions on how to put it together.

Wow... oh and:

Yamauchi arrives back to his Polyphony Digital office, talks to his second in command, pulls out his phone and announces, "Gran Turismo 5 will be in stores Thanksgiving Weekend!"

What a weekend to release the game.

Esquire Magazine interview this month

Gran Turismo began as a simple ambition to create the perfect driving simulator; now, it?s evolved into one of the most successful video game series ever, and a social movement in its own right. Esquire caught up with Kazunori Yamauchi as he put the finishing touches to the latest chapter.

In a quiet backstreet of Tokyo?s Koto district stands a nondescript office building, its plain fa?ade and modest signage giving little away as to the type of business conducted above its white-tiled lobby. Up on the second floor hides the headquarters of Polyphony Digital, a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc (SCEI). It is the developing studio responsible for Gran Turismo, the most accurate driving series ever to grace a games console, and ? with more than 56m copies sold - one of the primary contributors to the success of Sony?s PlayStation.

Just off to read it all myself now :)

?There are a lot of things that we couldn?t put in this time,? he sighs, ?so we?ll probably just continue making the game. Completing one piece of work - in this case, GT5 - really connects to the motivation to make the next one.?

From http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/8113479/Gran-Turismo-5-developer-interview.html

Contradiction? I'm sure the line from PD for at least the last 12 months has been that the reason it has been delayed so much is because they wanted it to be finished, and there wouldn't be any patches for additional content. Here, Yamauchi seems to be saying quite the opposite - it's not the finished product he wanted it to be. So my question is, couldn't he have drawn the line a year ago? Surely some of the features they kept adding could of been added to the list of "things that we couldn't put in this time"? We would all of been happy with GT5 last year and GT5.1 next year.

They probably added a **** ton of things, but Yamauchi still has more things to put in it.

In a way, yes.

Have you started work on GT6?

There were a lot of things we couldn't include in 5 that will carry over into 6, so in that respect, development has already started.

Have Sony even made an official announcement yet? with all these leaks, it's obvious that production is ramping up so why is Sony keeping so tight lipped about it? Sony need to get their collective arses in gear..

I hope that track selection layout isn't the same through all the modes, as that is a bit stupid. Why do you have to create a seperate entry for the same track in the rain? Reverse track, fair enough, but you should be allowed to choose the weather after you've chosen the track.

Agreed. But maybe there is something we don't know yet.
