This really may be the very last time I pre-order a game from Amazon. Same deal as it was with CoD BO. Still no email about it being shipped, and the site itself just says it is being processed. Looks like once again I am going to have to go buy the game at Best Buy and return it once I get it from Amazon. I would not even bother if not for the fact I can actually play it tomorrow.

EDIT- Well funny enough, I just rechecked Amazon's site, and it has been shipped and it says it left at 2PM this afternoon, and is on track for tomorrow. So keeping my fingers crossed here.

So far I'm loving it. I am looking at it as a racing game though, not as yet another Call of War Five Minutes Long Super November Edition 9 which has to have the best graphics ever to even qualify as a good game. I like substance and originality in my games.

My summary/mini-review for those interested:

- Graphics are generally brilliant. Lighting is superb (see Super Special Route 7), although anti-aliasing isn't as good as it could be in-race. We know this is the PS3 weak spot though. In some cases the shadows in the interior seem to go blocky, but it doesn't always happen. Perhaps only in some cars? I've seen some people say that Codemaster's graphics are better. Personally I find them over-processed and full of unnecessary glare (F1 2010 not so much, GRID was terrible).

- Amount of modes is good. Especially like the B-spec mode. Enough stuff to do to keep you playing for months. From both a racing and gaming point of view it is excellent. Too many short games these days..

- Course maker, although simple, is pretty good. Would perhaps have been nice to have a full-blown editor, but having played Modnation Racers it can become a bit tedious.

- The tracks are great. Cape Ring is brilliant fun. I'm guessing some have to be unlocked or are GT mode only as Nordschliefe and Dunsfield are both absent in arcade.

- Cars... I've not seen all the cars, but from the lists available prior to launch I had already decided that Polyphony need to cut it down a little and make it a little more balanced for future GT titles. I like the old cars and variations, but in some cases it is insane. Buying my first car I had 4 choices of MX5 and they all looked exactly the same to me. I'm sure the only difference was the name. My last full Gran Turismo was GT2 and the balance felt good in that with only a few repeats so they should look at that.

- Lack of cockpits for standard both pleases and annoys me. On the one hand it feels unfinished, on the other I don't think a generic cockpit would feel right either. Out of the two, I think I prefer it as it is.

- Physics feel good. I turned TC off and gave the Lotus Elise a go. Found it easy and thought the TC made no difference. Then I tried the Ferrari F40... Around we go, and again, and again...

- AI seem much better than Prologue's so far and react well overtaking. Is quite hard to pass them sometimes as they do a good job of blocking the road.

- Sounds seem pretty good to me, although I am no audiophile. I couldn't stop using the external camera while driving the AMG SLS though.... gorgeous. Only thing that bothers me is the tyre squeal, which it often does. To this day I still can't hear tyre squeal over the engine noise when I watch motorsport.

For those who are into this game way more then I am (meaning veterans of the series) and who also know their stuff about cars (I know gas and brake, and how to change oil), if you could list what the good all around starting car and / or cars that more or less a noob like me to the series should focus on using and purchasing for awhile, it would be greatly appreciated.

:( my copy has been sitting in the depo since Monday and they still haven't given it to the driver...it's officially released tomorrow here in Australia, so hopefully they will delivery it then. However, this is Australia Post were are talking about here, so maybe they lost it (they are the worst postal service in the world after all) which is why I paid extra for delivery insurance!

I swear I'm gonna get addicted to GT5. :p I finally stopped playing it just before 1am. I've been playing it for over 10 hours straight.

The hardest car to control that I've come across is, surprisingly, the Lotus Elise. I was doing the Top Gear Test Track intermediate challenge, and I was there for at least an hour trying to do that one. That car is a complete handful!

Dont get me wrong the premium cars look great but Forza put the same effort into all of the cars and they are beautiful, as well as the tracks. This game looks like a PS2 port in some of the screens I have seen. I will be renting this before making the jump and forking over $60. There are other games I will spend my money on... (Saves for Forza4)
