Finally got the G25 setup to the PS3 and you get no options what so ever for the game. The G25 has a nice one and half turns to full lock, which is great but i'd rather have the option to change that like on the PC (and that is through Logitech software or the game). Only a small problem really. Took so long today to set it up and sort out all the issues i was having, i kinda lost all enthusiasm for the game. Played it for 20 minutes and got fed up. Tomorrow when i'm able to play it properly, i should get into it more and do some awesome lap times haha.

@AbandonedTrolley, Watch Spurs, this match will only be live once and they could confirm their spot in the next round too. GT5 will still be there tomorrow or later in the evening..

^ so how's the ACTUAL game?

So far so good. I bought the Civic, but I haven't raced it yet. I am in the License tests right now doing the first test in the Toyota Yarus. However, the Ui and features in the My Home are nicely laid out IMO, and the community features look pretty cool. I am not far in though.

BTW, if you want to see the quality difference between photomode and ingame/replay, you can do that right away in the License test. I saved the replay of the premium Yaris doing my 0-200 foot run/brake and then went into photomode while watching the replay. You can see the jaggies, and white outlines of the car and the cars look like hubcaps from Kmart. Get into photomode, and magic happens, and the car look awesome.

I was in cockpit view, and it looked pretty good, but the sun was in the wrong direction, making my dash look pretty dark.

I am checking out GTTV right now, and just waiting for a show to download to see how well that part of the game works.

(Y) i'm presuming you've played forza before? Physics wise and game play, how does it compare? when it comes down to it, it's what I care for the most. I thought forza did a really good job.

I honestly think the game would have lived up to the hype, had the impression we were given not been so out of reach. If there were 1000 premium cars, and if all the tracks were premium, and wasn't missing some features, I think the game would have fully met the hype. However, I don't think anyone was expecting the standard cars and tracks to look the way they do, nor were they expecting the standard cars to be so extremely limited. That doesn't come down to hype, that just comes down to a product that was not ready for primetime. No doubt if Call of Duty Black Ops was released and had 5 premium looking weapons, and the remaining 20 weapons were standard weapons imported from Call of Duty Classic with no new added features, the game would get lambasted for not being a proper release and it would be the butt of all jokes.

That said, the game still has so much going for it.

Except they are two very different games. In a game like CoD, one experiences all the weapons just by playing it. Correct me if I am wrong here, but the whole premium vs standard car thing, well that is a choice, and one can choose to play the game entirely with the premium cars if they so desire, at least that is is my understanding. Not only that, but the whole standard vs premium cars thing really comes down to graphics, does it not? So they could have offered way less cars, and made them all premium, i.e. pretty, but they wanted to offer all of the cars, this way those people who are interested in the whole simulation aspect can indeed enjoy that aspect of it. Would it have been nice if every single car was a premium car? Sure, but it just did not happen. So this is quite clearly a case where they were damned if they did or damned if they did not, so they chose to offer more cars. Quite frankly, I personally think that was the more admirable choice, as they knew they were going to catch flack for it, but they wanted to offer the true driving simulator. Adding all of the cars makes it one step close to just that. At least that is the way I see it all. obviously others disagree and it is a travesty, but it would have been just as big of a travesty if they only had 400 premium cars and nothing else. Again, they are in a no win situation. This is all my opinion based on not even playing it yet, hoping UPS get's it to me sooner then later.

Some of your career does indeed require you to use standard cards.

Graphics, yes. You also can't paint, do wheel swaps, doesn't have illumination during night races from the headlights (they are just lit), do not have a cockpit...which requires you to change your driving habit when you are in those cars.

That is my thought as well, but they have to deal with the consequences. The best thing they did though was to lump the standard cars in the Used Car section so people understand they are less valuable. But the fact remains, the game contains cars and tracks that are not up to this generations standards.

Well, I too am glad they elected to put the standard cars in, I don't think anyone should really question that decision. But no matter what, it's going to get critiqued. Not just because it's GT5. Forza has 500+ premium cars. Had they decided to go with 400 standards and 100 premium, there would be an outcry as well. But universally, I imagine car enthusiasts will be happy to have MORE than less.

We are on the same page Larry. It's just that the those cars do look like garbage (in most cases), and pale in comparison to the premiums, and that is all a part of your overall experience (which includes graphics as well as their lack of features).

I saw the crappy standards well before I got the game. It didn't stop me from buying it, and it's not gonna stop the next 15 million purchases of the game. The only thing I see happening, is it's getting lower review scores. Aint no thing man.

Order not here yet. It was sent by special next day delivery. Obviously I had paid extra for it. Dispatched yesterday 5:30 PM. I bloody booked a day off from work and here I am furiously typing away nonsense

At least I won't be buying pre orders from Amazon. :pinch:

I can't say yet! I only did the stop start test and the first corner test of licenses. I have probably 1 mile in the game, lol! I keep looking at the wealth of other features, setting up my profile.

I know, my priorities are MESSED UP. lol

Okay, did not realize the standard cars also were missing all of those features, that is pretty poor, no doubt about it, especially if you have to use them. Not a great decision at all, I will admit that easily.

As far as cockpit view, I am going to try it out just because it is so cool looking when the cars are premium, but the chances of me sticking to it are slim to none, as it is near impossible for me to drive using it. I for all racing games use window view I guess you would call it, definitely not 3rd person view behind the car.

I just want to play it so I can see for myself.

Larry Larry....I was the same way about cockpit view. In fact, I was hardcore third person view for most of my console racing experience. It wasn't until FM3/GT5p that people encouraged me to try cockpit. They said it was much more immersive and has a better sense of speed. It took me a couple months, but I got used to it. So much so, that I really HATE going back to the hold way.

Funny thing is, I used to prefer third person shooters too. Then I spent more time in first person, and I can't go back either.

I know everyone is different, but you never know, it might float your boat after awhile.

Hey Brian can you take a photo mode pic of a standard car? I wonder if there is any difference. I'm also hearing you can customize certain number of cars.. (changing rims and etc) is this true?

As soon as I have enough credits to buy one, I will! I spent the opening amount on the Civic and I need to race yet. Been doing licenses. I looked in Arcade mode, but those all appear to be premiums only.

Been having some problems with GT5 and my controller, seems to forget it is there and won't let me do anything.

On the main menu it will just disappear and I went to an on-line lobby and while the cursor was there it wouldn't do anything, and I know the controller is working fine as I can bring up and control the in-game XMB.

AWBrian you can change the paint on the standard cars. Everything in the tuning menu works as well, it's just some things in the GT Auto menu like wheels. Some of the aero dynamic parts like spoilers work also.

I'm having a problem here, whenever I select anything (pressing X) nothing happens. It not that the game freezes, it acts like I didn't press anything. The only button seems to work is the PS one that's it, and it's pi   ing me off.

Add. note:

It happens on the controller and the wheel. I also did full installation but odd thing is that in the option menu it only shows 6gig install.

Just to check before my disappointment increases.

We can't select whatever weather/time for whatever track we want?

And unless I am missing it somewhere, I thought the full Nordschleife Nurburgring was in the game, but I can't seem to see it anywhere?

I posted this further up, nothing but the XMB button works.

No idea why, it has happened a few times, I quit out, deleted the GT5 data from the Game Data folder and went back in without installing the update and it is currently working fine.

I have the same problem. I generally just sit there and wait awhile. Sometimes it takes almost a minute for the cursor to move or just appear. Happens mostly when I BACK out of menus to get back to My Home after races, etc.

Ah, ok. Thanks!

can someone put a photomode picture of a standard car? will it look like a very realistic picture of an origami car or something?

I have enough credits now to buy one, so I will get one up shortly (unless AB has them by now).

See above. Same happens for me. I just sit there with patience.

BTW, they also have "standard" 2D racing fans ;)

Same here, Wont be doing a pre-order from Amazon again. Should of bought it down the bloody shop.

I am not 100% sure, but I THINK it's related to the network connection with GT5 servers. Mine has been freezing on my over and over, and sometimes I get the network connection error. I guess I could disconnect from PSN and see if that fixes it.

Just to check before my disappointment increases.

dont think so. you can select dynamic weather for the track, might be more settings havnt came across them though

it needs to be unlocked aswell as the top gear track. think they may be unlocked after completing the top gear and mercedes challenges
