Rappy Veteran Posted June 24, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 24, 2010 French president Nicolas Sarkozy will meet striker Thierry Henry on Thursday as he continues his inquest into the country's woeful World Cup performance. "Henry called the president from South Africa to tell him that he wanted to see him on his return," read a statement from the presidential palace. Sarkozy held a government meeting on Wednesday to discuss what went wrong. France arrived home on Thursday to a low-key welcome after infighting marred their campaign in South Africa. There were few supporters to be seen as the squad landed at Le Bourget business airport to the north of Paris. French media say that Henry flew his own chartered plane for a meeting with President Sarkozy. Striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home after a row with boss Raymond Domenech, prompting the team to go on strike. Prime Minister Francois Fillon, sports minister Roselyne Bachelot and junior sports minister Rama Yade joined Sarkozy to discuss how a country that won the World Cup in 1998 and reached the final in 2006 could only finish bottom of their group in 2010, with only one point and a single goal. Bachelot believes Jean-Pierre Escalettes will have to relinquish his post as head of the French Football Federation (FFF). She told RTL radio: "The departure of Jean-Pierre Escalettes is not something I want but I find it inevitable. "The players have not received any remuneration, the coach is going so the last part of this disaster is the federation."
