primexx
so for some reason unknown bing is periodically hijacking my navigation bar's single word queries and only goes away after restarting my computer. well it's doing that right now, as i was looking for ccleaner's changelog. this is what i saw, compared to google's results (which, by the way, would have taken me directly to their website had my navigation bar not been hijacked). AgentGray
>> Because you can't find computer software Without reading the rest of the first page? Also? Wikipedia? Not a random page. I'd actually rather have it at the top then the proported "real" site for most software I'm looking up. Will result in a lot of people installing a lot less crap on their systems if they see it's connected to numorous malware scams. (Not the case in CCleaner, but most security software.) Could use work, but hardly a final nail in the coffin when you consider all the things Bing does right in terms of presentation and it's other features. primexx
umm, what? tried it again on my other laptop, noticed in the corner it says canada, switched it to US and i got your results. (google was .ca) so basically, bing still sucks for me. >> Because you can't find computer software Without reading the rest of the first page? Also? Wikipedia? Not a random page. SkinAddict
@Andrew Lyle, your search pulled a mere 509k results while the OP's pulled 54.3 million results... I'm guessing different settings here somewhere...
Glen
I got the same results as Andrew where Bing shows it correctly on the first hit. I'm not a fan of Bing at all, but they do seem to be doing better at indexing than they were months ago when they first started.

primexx
did you notice, I am also Canadian? oops, yea that's weird, but i'm definitely getting crappy results. generic, no customizations whatsoever, no search history or anything, since i never use it. Sigurd
The filehippo is also the first result for me and the official site is the 2nd result, UK here though so its not just you primexx although mine is second and not way down.

What do you mean that it hijacked your nav bar? I have no idea what you're talking about. Do you use IE? That would search Bing... As for your OP, I wouldn't really call these sites random... Filehippo is a download site and that takes you to their CCleaner page. CNet is also hosting CCleaner and that takes you to the CCleaner page. Wikipedia has a page about CCleaner... I wouldn't consider these random at all, as they are in fact pages about what you are looking for. I searched as well, and found their home page at the top of my results as others did. But I didn't really understand these sites being considered "Random"... Random would be searching for "CCleaner" and getting links about Tennis or something... I've not heard about that at all, and just tried that here in Firefox and didn't have any issue like that... Although searching from my location bar does seem to use a search designated by my ISP (Frontier)... Very weird...
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted June 25, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted June 25, 2010 I forgot to mention, ccleaner uses these pages as a download host. So they should generate more hits based on the product name, and in return, be first on the list.

Piriform doesn't host any downloads themselves, and even pushes out change logs to these download hosts. So there's very little reason to visit their site first... Colin-uk Veteran Posted June 26, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2010 piriform use filehippo as their primary mirror location. which is probly why it got a high ranking. piriform comes up 3rd in the results list for me on bing. which makes sense since you search for ccleaner, not piriform. DrunkenBeard
If you wanna use Bing you've gotta use the US version, it's the real deal. The other versions are just re-branded Live Search. random_n 1 Share
