Spookie
So you're saying they don't work now? Maybe if all they're doing is waving their arms for 20mins ya, but if you get your whole body into it for a good 20mins of nonstop movement with a fast rhythem then ya, you do get fit. Aye I don't believe in any of that ****. Instead of spending ?120 on kinect. Buy a bike or a gym membership if you want to keep fit. /incrediblyofftopic Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/915532-official-kinect-over-4-million-units-sold/page/13/#findComment-593280982 Share on other sites

And Kinect would also be able to do stat tracking and all kinds of stuff to encourage you, the 3D camera can keep track of your body shape and tell you you're going down. So why is it bad to have new and fun ways to exercise, heck it's cheaper and more fun than a gym or sitting on a bike anyway so I don't see any negative with it... oh yeah right, I forgot... it's xbox.... sorry. Hedon
So you're saying they don't work now? oh yeah right, I forgot... it's xbox.... sorry. And the truth shall set you free . However, I don't see a need to convince the Xbox or Kinect haters to buy Kinect. Even if they did, they would just say it sucks even if it doesn't. It's an endless battle. The same can be said the other way with Move as well. Hedon
Normal controllers have been evolving since the NES. Now they're being replaced. These motion controls are a fad. The regular controllers (DS3 and 360 controller) are superior and they won't be replaced. spaceelf
Sweet, and I can point out many more that failed or disappeared after the fad was over. That is fascinating, but I don't think there's any point in saying 'it will be this way' when neither of us has a time machine. I personally don't expect to still be using a mouse and keyboard in five years, much less a normal controller. Ironman273
I thought this observation from Penny Arcade was good enough to share :D The Wii is generally considered to be, well, the Wii - it's virtually a shorthand for third party shovelware. Even with this reputation, if you look back to its launch you'll see a lineup with fault lines lurching through every type of player - with a new Zelda game to make an indelible case to the gaming stalwart. That's not happening with the Kinect launch - there's nothing you could call outreach, no authentic or even nominal "bones" to what you might think of as the typical 360 owner. Is that bad? The Wii had no choice but to cast a wide net; its novel controller and its platform are synonymous. But there there are already tens of millions of 360s in the wild, serviced by third party offerings and homegrown notions like Gears, Fable, and the Haloz. But outside of a few TGS announcements, they haven't made any kind of broad entreaty for the peripheral. Is that bad? I'm on record as saying that Kinect will succeed to the precise extent that gamers hate it, not because I want to believe that or even because I can prove it, but because it is the dramatically appropriate outcome. You would be surprised how often this strange law holds. Ayepecks
I thought this observation from Penny Arcade was good enough to share :D Source: Penny Arcade Somewhat random, but I hate how Tycho wrote that. I disagree with the notion that Microsoft should have made a bunch of non-casual games for launch. What the 360 is lacking, in comparison to the Wii, is a casual audience. That's precisely why the Kinect and Move were invented -- because neither Microsoft nor Sony has been able to capture that group. So of course the first offerings for both are going to be primarily casual games (or family games, whatever you want to refer to it as) in nature. I'm not saying it should stay that way, just that it'd be foolish to not think it should start that way. It would be foolish not to add more "hardcore" games to your Kinect lineup down the road. But Kinect's purpose is to sell consoles, and the best way to sell more consoles is to entice additional audiences. So, for now, I don't fault Microsoft's strategy. But it can't be their long-run strategy, or it will fail; as, at some point, it has to be about keeping both the audience you already have (hardcore) and the audience you've just gained (casual/family). CentralDogma
Motion sensing isn?t a bad technology. But developers have been sending out shovelware on it. Just look at what 3rd party is sending out on the Wii. It?s deplorable, trying to make a cheap buck without putting any effort into their games. Sadly, I haven?t seen things turning around on Kinect and Move. 1 or 2 key games and the rest are garbage. And I?m not saying that every game has to be a triple A title or that ?hard core games? (whatever that means) are the only kind, I?m saying developers should put effort into their games. Your game could have an amazing story, intriguing gameplay, amazing art design, ? something to make it stand out. If you?re just recycling an old game or throwing together something that looks like a Flash game, I have no sympathy for you as a developer. Neo003
I'm buying kinect not cause of the games (I know they will suck), but for now I'll use it to navigate the menus (and the audible commands doesn't hurt either). But later they they start modding the damn thing I could use it on my computer :p. Ironman273
Oh, hellz yea. If Oprah's endorsing it I'm definitely getting me one. Oprah Audience Explodes Into Hysterics Over Free Xbox Kinects We were kind of hoping today's Kinect plug on Oprah would mean she'd be piloting a virtual raft with her body, but the episode's YOU GET A KINECT! YOU GET A KINECT! YOU GET A KINECT! finale is even better. Oprah's typical studio audience is, to put it politely, not exactly a core Xbox demographic?but from their reaction you would think George Clooney walked out on stage engulfed in flames with some sort of cupcake-firing bazooka. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted October 21, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted October 21, 2010 Apparently the reviews are embargoed till AFTER launch? Many journalists in the gaming industry have complained about Microsoft's hesitation to send the Kinect and any of its software offerings for review. This is actually something that has been actively talked about on game press forums. In addition the publisher has also placed an embargo on posting any sort of review for the device prior to launch. Microsoft's internal anti piracy investigation group has also issued a take-down notice to Destructoid, who incidentally made fun of the Kinect's new commercials. The fact that Microsoft is being so sensitive about any sort of criticism towards the device is a major concern. Just like how film studios won't hold a pre-screening for movies that is expected to tank, the video game industry operates exactly the same way. http://gamer.blorge....-is-a-red-flag/ But you know AWBrian got his review kit before any press did, maybe his website doesn't have an embargo?
