yeoo_andy_ni
Excellent review, great reading. Making me want to swap my Smart for the Legend. Or any other HTC device! KzR
I'm looking to buy the HTC Legend over the iPhone, as the former is much cheaper. Just some questions: How's the responsiveness of the GUI as compared to iPod Touch (since you've used it)? How's the speed of the web browser? How are the built-in calendar and media player apps? gazebee_
Great phone; I got the Desire and recommended my girlfriend to get the Legend. While I initially considered the Legend, I decided on the Desire because it is on technically on par with the Nexus One and it has a vibrant modding community over at XDA Developers. .Neo
How's the responsiveness of the GUI as compared to iPod Touch (since you've used it)? Great really. If the HTC Legend turned out to provide a lesser experience I would have returned it in a heartbeat, like I did with my HTC Touch Diamond back in 2008. How's the speed of the web browser? Here in Amsterdam and surrounding areas I almost always have full 3G coverage, so I can't really complain about the web browser speeds. So far it's responsive and fast as far as mobile browsers go. Just like Safari on the iPhone it's based on WebKit. How are the built-in calendar and media player apps? The Calendar works just fine really. The media player is something that, GUI wise, feels a bit dated compared to my iPod touch. That doesn't mean it plays music any worse than my iPod, it just isn't as nice too look at. ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/915636-htc-legend/page/2/#findComment-592956842 Share on other sites
Singh400
Friend of mine at work just got a HTC Legend (I lead her towards HTC & Android). And I plan on having a play with it throughout the week (in fact I have it now) and first impressions is actually it isn't that much smaller from a Desire. It certainly looks it, but side-by-side, and ontop. There is hardly any difference (ok, maybe a slight difference in height). It is just as fast as my Desire. Well, on "normal" operations like email, text, music etc. Haven't tried any gaming. The screen size is an issue that is beginning to annoy me. The on screen keyboard now takes up 80%+ of the screen when in use. Which is very impractical. By the way SwiftKey is kinda rocking it. I gotta be honest, I prefer the look and the solidness of the Legend over the Desire. If they bought out a Desire in a unibody (DesireHD?), I'd snap it up in an instance. You can't go wrong with either phones in my opinion. If you can afford it, I would go with the Desire for future Android 3.0 goodness. But if not, the Legend is certainly not to be considered a loser or second place. It certainly holds its own again the Desire (and in some cases - design, look and feel - wins outright). Lesson learnt? Sometimes bigger, better and faster doesn’t matter, it is the overall package. Singh400
That's a bit of an exaggeration. ;) 75%-80% there about. It does cover the majority of the screen when in use, you can not deny that. .Neo
75%-80% there about. It does cover the majority of the screen when in use, you can not deny that. Just over half the screen, so maybe 60%. That's not the 80%+ you are talking about. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/915636-htc-legend/page/2/#findComment-592957850 Share on other sites
.Neo
PS The onscreen keyboard alone takes up 50% of the screen. Including a text field like the browser address bar or when typing a text message it's the ±60% I was talking about above. .Neo
I'm glad you guys are enjoying my review. Definitely makes it worthwhile. PS HTC just pushed out an update for the HTC Legend of about 25 MB. Unfortunately no Froyo yet. Version is now described as 2.1-update1. WarStorm
Sorry I've re-read what I said and your right it doesn't make sense lol. I meant - The home key on my HTC legend feels slightly wobberly- compared to the other keys that is. .Neo
Since they're physical keys they all move around a fraction. Can't say my home key moves around more than the rest though.
