[7600/x64] Corrupt autochk.exe

Recommended Posts

I recently found out that my copy of autochk.exe is corrupt, and the source file that Windows tries to replace it with is also corrupt, according to SFC:

Can someone e-mail me a copy of their autochk.exe from Windows 7 (latest updates), 64-bit? My address is .

Edit: NVM

Yeah.

I'm exploring options to extract the file from my OS disk and its accompanying WIM. On a related note, it looks to me like this issue has existed since Vista was released, and I'm wondering what program is destroying autochk...

Alright, if you want something done right...

I used DISM to mount install.wim as read-only from my Windows 7 disk. Since I have the Ultimate edition, I selected index 4 (but this may not be necessary for a generic file such as autochk). I then checked the hashes of all the copies of autochk that I have, and found that the x64 version in WinSXS did not match the original. I took ownership of the appropriate files and directories, deleted the corrupt file, replaced it with the copy from my installation media, and ran sfc /scannow again. This time, Windows was able to complete the scan without any errors.

Windows 7 has the ability to mount WIM files natively, and that process is described here:
