On a related note, it looks to me like this issue has existed since Vista was released, and I'm wondering what program is destroying autochk... zhangm Supervisor Posted July 8, 2010 Author Supervisor Share Posted July 8, 2010 Alright, if you want something done right... I used DISM to mount install.wim as read-only from my Windows 7 disk. Since I have the Ultimate edition, I selected index 4 (but this may not be necessary for a generic file such as autochk). I then checked the hashes of all the copies of autochk that I have, and found that the x64 version in WinSXS did not match the original. I took ownership of the appropriate files and directories, deleted the corrupt file, replaced it with the copy from my installation media, and ran sfc /scannow again. This time, Windows was able to complete the scan without any errors.
