Vice
So I have a Windows Server running 2008 R2 and I need an Anti-Virus. This is a file server preliminary and it's handling a lot of files from clients and any of which could contain Viruses, Trojans, Spyware and so on. Relying on Anti-Virus software at the clients side has been good up until now but there have been some events where malicious software was uploaded (by accident) and spread to other clients so I'd like an Anti-Virus on the server itself if only to add another opportunity for it to be detected and removed before clients get infected. So with that in mind, which Anti-Virus should I use? finding reviews for Server Anti-Viruses has been more difficult than I expected. I'm looking for something that is simple, doesn't take up to many resources and just does what it's supposed to. Any suggestions? sc302 Veteran Posted July 20, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 20, 2010 I would recommend a corporate product like symantec endpoint protection or vipre or kaspersky or nod32. Put it on your server, and have it on your workstations, with the management interface you can see what computers/servers are having issues with viruses/malware. With SEP you have the ability to completely lock down the workstation (stop it from communicating, stop the users from accessing usb drives, stop them from accessing shares, etc). Bryan R.
Trend Micro has an amazing product: Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security. It has a ton of features/capabilities. Off-site SPAM filtering, offloading client anti-virus processing to the server, Behavior Monitoring, URL filtering, Web Reputation, and much more. All centralized with detailed and configurable reports. I highly recommend. Prophecy
Trust me nothing will protect as well as ESET. I think symantec is crap and have had multiple complications with it and endpoint. sc302 Veteran Posted July 27, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 27, 2010 What are the current complaints with sep. They did away with the problematic teefer driver that was added as a protocol to the nic. Since then I have had no issues with it.
