[i] Dodonpachi R (resurrection)

Recommended Posts

Wow, I thought Cave's first offering on iDevices was nuts (Espgaluda2 I think is how you spell it) and hard as all heck. Was I wrong?!

Dodonpachi R (or resurrection, since it first came out in 1997 in the Japanese arcade scene) is absolutely mind blowing. Talk about a schump or bullet hell game. Man. First, I can't believe the amount of action on screen at any given time on that little idevice, amazing stuff really. Second, it's a totally awesome and faithful port.

Any of you guys buy it or play it yet (not sure if there is a lite version, I bought it as soon as I saw it on the app store the other day)? If you haven't, I highly recommend you go and download the lite version of Espgaluda2 to get an idea how awesome Cave's games are. I'm SO glad they are bringing their Japanese bullet hell shooters to our little gaming hands. I'd truly love an XBLA/PSN or PC port of these games, but beggers can't be choosers as they say!

Here is the app store link for Espgaluda2 on the app store (not the lite version) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/espgaluda-ii/id363969661?mt=8

How well does it actually play on the iPhone? I guess it would be quite weird playing with just a touch screen, but who knows I could see it been quite a lot of fun.

If Cave ever port any of there games to Android I will be sure to check them out.

Just FYI you can get a fair few of the shooters by Cave on the 360, most are region locked though so you will need a NTSC-J or Jtag hacked 360 to play them.

Off the top of my head you can get:

  • DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Lable
  • Ketsui
  • Espgaluda 2 (Region free)
  • Mushihime-sama Futari ver 1.5 (Region free)
  • Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5 (released in November 2010 :D)
  • DeathSmiles
  • DeathSmiles 2

Actually it plays terrific on the touch screen. I was honestly shocked how well it controlled. Also, your finger doesn't block the view like a million other games do! (which is a plus, since there's so much going on, one split second and you are explodeded)

I've already beaten DoDonPachiR 3 times now (trying to get a specific achievement now actually lol) and it's always a blast to play, literally.
