Please tell me you've done a search on Microsoft's site about the error code listed in the install box up there. That's your first place to go. They even tell you to!

But such errors can occur if you're running certain anti-virus programs. Also, you must have SP3 installed on Windows XP for Office 2010 to work.

The computer only has a gig of ram and vista and windows 7 were using close to 800 mb of ram just idle. The computer came with Vista originally, do you think I should try Vista?

Slap another gig of ram in that puppy and it will run Windows 7 with no problems whatsoever. I would recommend Windows 7 over Vista, actually.

yeah it should run win 7 just fine, i had win 7 running on a computer with just 756mb of ram for awhile

ram really isn't all that expensive anymore just another stick and you should be fine

and yes i also recommend 7 over vista

Don't have the funds for more memory right now I am unemployed at the moment.

ah, been there

This computer is the HP Slimeline model that came with Vista Home Premium, it has a AMD processor and 2x512mb Ram with a integrated video card.... So yeah its not the greatest hardware I am working with thats why I opted for XP instead of 7.

also, why XP I've heard that office 2010 isn't very stable on XP
This is XP bashing and Windows 7 fanboyism to the extreme. Microsoft designed Office 2010 to run on XP and above. Even if it takes advantage of some Windows 7 specific features doesn't mean it won't run well (and by well I mean extremely well) on older Windows besides Windows 7.

Windows XP is an ancient and pathetic OS which is not capable of properly running modern software like Office 2010. Pointing this out is not fanboyism.

you know windows 7 will run better on that hardware then Windows XP pro will right? also since she your GF is a graphics designer windows 7 would be a better choice also windows 7 is not vista thus it is not hogging the ram but when you need it it will let ya have the ram back when a program needs it. try windows 7 on it cause well it will run just fine also Office 2010 is optimized to take advantage of some of windows 7 advanced functionality and features

bull****.

If Microsoft allows Office 2010 to be installed on Windows XP, then it should install and it SHOULD work. if it doesn't then the Windows XP installation it was installed on has issues.
