The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck

Recommended Posts

General notes from the episode: Team Kos says what everybody already knows: Kos sucks as a coach. Probably on the same level as Rampage. And in other awful news, Nam Phan took cornering duties again. I wish he would just shut up.

1st fight:

3 round war. The referee was suffering from retardation. They should have been stood up multiple times. Brookins was dominating but he wasn't advancing the position or attacking with shots. He consistently went for a RNC. Kyle showed good use of butterfly guard to stand up but in the end he wasn't attacking in any signifcant way. Not even a triangle attempt. He would have lost anyway but he could have least tried a Kimura from guard in the end as a go for broke move.

Like I predicted, Brookins is in the finals. No surprise here, he stood with Jos? Aldo for 3 rounds so we know he can deliver.

I'll post the comments for the 2nd fight later.

2nd fight:

Bye bye Nam Phan. He again showed in the fight what I said before: he lacks killer instinct to finish the fight. Michael Johnson was gassing again, eating punches left and right and Nam, who had much better striking, let himself be hugged on the fence. Michael Johnson took Nam down but couldn't do anything with it, didn't even try to attack. He just took him down for points. His striking had power behind it but lacked technique.

Both my picks for the finale ended up being correct. For the finale, easy: Brookins. Johnson lacks the gas tank and technique to stand and bang or to fight on the ground. Brookins will it him with a vertical drop and RNC him.

FINALE: Well... it sucked. Decision fest. Even Bonnar went to a decision! Bonnar! TO A DECISION!

Brookins got his chin tuned over and over again. Granted, he has a good chin but he took way more hits than he should. Johnson showed improvement since his days in the house, his striking technique was crisper and his gas is MUCH better. In the 2nd round, Brookins took him down and GnP him. Johnson just couldn't get himself up. Pretty balanced fight for the first 2 rounds with each fighter taking a round. 3rd round is the charm. Brookins tried the lateral drop and it almost failed him. I know it's your signature move but you need to fight smart. Again Broolings by GnP takes the round and it's over. Another correct pick for me: Brookins wins TUF by decision.

Props to Herb Dean for keeping the action going instead of letting them stall.

Also props to Nam Phan for not pulling the trigger in the 3rd round against a very tired and very gassed Leonard Garcia and losing the decision in the process.

the guy i wanted to win won (Y)

he has a lot of work to do though brookins. Rogan was bang on with his analysis with the way brookins stands, his chin just asked to be punched ever fight.

and nam pham got screwed, i thought he won all three rounds. Kid has tons of potential.

Your pick to win this was wrong from the get go, it's only after Mckenzie's loss that you had to re-evaluate.
