Mr. Gibs
The new hotmail update hasn't even arrived yet as far as I know..It's due in October. But as per your problem the links you provided deal with a POP issue; if you didn't select save on server your mail will be sent to your device and then deleted. Then there are those who deleted them by using the sweep function by mistake. My hotmail inbox (an entire domain is hosted on it, with well over 30k emails) is working fine so I dunno. sw1tch..
Thanks for the information, this is very concerning as I do almost all of my non work related email using hotmail :s
Duality
Check that devices or programs set to pull mail from your inbox are configured to leave the mail on the server. I accidentally emptied my university mail account trying to set Outlook up to pull from it.

andy2004
yeha and they are so incompetent its unbeliveable. You just gotta read their cut n paste answers. Id hate to be doing their job. Id feel guilty that my company screwed up someones life and lets face it yeah its a free service yeah you get what you pay for but how many people store their lives in hotmail. Its definately an issue with MSN and HOTMAIL. I Suggest ringing 00 1 425 882 8080 and ask for mike shackwitz whos a product manager for hotmail. Leave a polite message explaining what happened. The more people who do this the more he will realise something is wrong with hotmail.

If they did do an upgrade, it will be done to the entire server bay and if there was a bug it would have affected every single person on that bay which would mean you wouldn't be reading about 10 people who lost their email. It would be thousands upon thousands. Now considering no news site has picked up on this, and during the last batch of upgrades when MS did have a problem they admitted to it, I highly doubt this is a server-wide hotmail issue and probably just a local one. andy2004
none the less you cant deny its happening and if it was 1 server bay as you say how come its starting to affect more and more people. At the end of the day I was fortunate that what i lost was irrelveant but people store their lives in hotmail. Yes server faults happen and hardware faults happen but were talking about microsoft here. Your not telling me they dont back everything up. What if I was up to illegal acts say and the FBI issued MS with a subpeen or a warrant of some sort and demanded those emails of mine. Hotmail turns round and says oh sorry due to a server issue WE LOST the data. Yeah I dont think so. WHilst its not been picked up its easy to fob people off and disclaim there is no issue. Ive been dabbling in IT for over 12 years. Its not as if i said ooo gonna open hotmail and download everything to my desktop. Im not an idiot and i know to leave it on the server. Also explain to me this why after i discovered it happened did i have the generic welcome to hotmail email ? HOTMAIL/MICROSOFT have screwed up and im sure we will be seeing more people with this issue. Keep an eye on windows live help and lost/deleted emails section. Well, obviously we should take them all out back and beat them within an inch of their lives for providing a free service. And yes, assuming they don't have backups, they would tell the FBI "we lost the data".
+kjx Subscriber² Posted September 30, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted September 30, 2010 I've seen threads on their support forums where support personnel managed to restore e-mails for users. If you are fast, you can get all your e-mail messages back.
andy2004
Sadly its been too long now for anything to be restored even though i notified them as soon as I realised it had happened. The missing email doesnt bother me its the principle of it. Microsoft have forced an update of hotmail to everyone and some people are logging in finding that entire contents of the ttheir hotmail accounts are missing. Were not talking about being hacked, were not talking about accidental deletion and were not talking about downloading to a client. One day you login and where youd look and see all your emails and folders etc instead you have nothing and the default welcome/getting started with hotmail. Its the principle here that Microsoft have potentially a huge issue with this update they are rolling out and more and more people are finding theyve lost their entire lives that theyve stored in hotmail. spenumatsa
Stop using hotmail. It's terrible. /thread Why is it terrible? I have been using it since the beginning and it has worked to my satisfaction. Agreed, it is somewhat slow. It has ads which are sometimes a distraction. But it works. You cannot just make a blanket statement without any reasons.

Sucks to be them then. Maybe people will leave hotmail and it can finally die.

cork1958
Stop using hotmail. It's terrible. /thread Sorry about your loss, but this would've been my comment also. Been a LONG time since I've used it, but that exact thing has happened to me a couple times, way back when. Hotmail is one of the most spam infested, worthless web mails in existence!! As much as I hate Gmail also, even it is better than Hotmail!
