Kriz
Yeh it was pretty good, yet to see the pre-lims i got home late.. Brandon Vera did his usual thing, just like Cheick Kongo, they have a good fight, everyone hypes them up including themselves 'we are back', and then get dominated, Vera didnt know what to do when Silva was on top of him, massive size difference too, deserved win for Silva but he should've finished him off.. Nate was pretty much dominated by the bigger guy too, good fight but considering Kim wanted to win by KO or submission i found it a bit slow.. Excellent win for Guida against one of the top fighters in his weightclass, Gomi could not adjust to his movement, which is always impeccable.. Shock of the night with Brian Stann KO'ing Leben, i was shocked, who does Stann think he is, Anderson Silva? BIG stepping stone up in his career.. Frankie Edgar did amazing recovering from those first few knock downs, 97 punches Maynard threw trying to finish him in the 1st round, no wonder he was pretty tired the rest of the fight.. It was a close fight, but not a draw, in my eyes if you want to be the champion you've got to BEAT the champion, by KO, submission or a 5 round domination, it'll be good to see a rematch though.. All in all pretty good PPV :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/943334-ufc-125-edgar-vs-maynardbrandon-vera-vs-thiago-silva/page/3/#findComment-593549190 Share on other sites
D. S. Veteran Posted January 3, 2011 Veteran Share Posted January 3, 2011 I was pleansantly surprised with this PPV especially because of the Main Event. What a surprising fight. My comments in bold: Frankie Edgar (155) vs. Gray Maynard (155) - Wow. What a fight. Back and forth. Every round had some great moments. The slam in the 2nd round was AMAZING! Quite a change of pace for a title fight after GSP smashed Koscheck without an hitch. Chris Leben (186) vs. Brian Stann (186) - Great fight. Stann was bold to stand and bang with Leben and his striking was crisp. Didn't think Leben would get TKO'ed. Nate Diaz (170) vs. Dong Hyun Kim (171) - Kim effectively neutralized the BJJ of Diaz (he couldn't even throw a triangle) and used his size and strenght to grind out a decision. Takanori Gomi (155) vs. Clay Guida (156) - Guida doing his usual thing. Gomi can't defend chokes to save his life. He left himself vulnerable to an arm triangle since he was taken down and ended up being choked in an arm-in guillotine. Thiago Silva (206) vs. Brandon Vera (205) - Vera can't catch a break. Last fight gets his orbital bone broken. This time his nose gets destroyed. And he got bitchslapped. LoL. Marcus Davis (156) vs. Jeremy Stephens (156) - Pow, right in the kisser. I don't think the cut to 155 favored Davis at all. Josh Grispi (146) vs. Dustin Poirier (145) - LOL! Grispi got clowned badly. I can only imagine the beating that José Aldo would have handed him. That would have been even more awesome. Does Poirier take his title shot? Phil Baroni (186) vs. Brad Tavares (185) - Baroni will probably get cut. He is now 13-13 in his career and doesn't seem to be improving. Tavares looked pretty good but his miles away from top MW competition. Mike Brown (146) vs. Diego Nunes (146) - Didn't get televised. Not a good start for Mike Brown in the UFC. I hope he can bounce back to his pre-José Aldo beatdown days. Daniel Roberts (171) vs. Greg Soto (171) - Flash Kimura! Roberts came close to being choked in the first minutes and came back to take the win in seconds. Antonio McKee (156) vs. Jacob Volkmann (156) - Didn't get televised. It's the first loss for Antonio McKee in 8 years. Just goes to show the level of competition in the UFC is in a totally different league. Rappy Veteran Posted January 4, 2011 Author Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2011 According to MMAJunkie.com, exciting middleweight fighter Phil "The New York Bad Ass" Baroni has been released from his UFC contract following a knockout loss to young Hawaiian Brad Tavares on the preliminary card of UFC 125: Resolution.Baroni looked to be in fantastic shape and had Tavares in trouble early on, but a head kick and a straight right hand turned the tides for Tavares, who put Baroni in dire straits and finished him off with strikes against the cage. The loss marks Baroni's third consecutive defeat and his second in his most recent run under the UFC banner. Baroni is both an early-UFC and PRIDE FC veteran, going 3-5 in his first UFC stint, which extended from 2001 to 2005. He went 4-2 in PRIDE following that UFC stint, before moving on to compete in Strikeforce and EliteXC. He found his way back to the UFC after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Joe Riggs in Strikeforce, and failed in his debut (in the UFC and at welterweight) to The Ultimate Fighter 7 winner Amir Sadollah. Jimmy0
I am impressed with Edgar coming back into the fight after he got demolished in the first round. He deserved to retain the title after coming back from that beating.
