[XP] Bluescreen During Install, Please Help

Recommended Posts

Tried removing 2 sticks of memory, tried removing 3 and just leaving 1 and same crash... Tried disabling onboard audio... same crash tried drivers from motherboard manufacturer's website instead of the newer ones I downloaded... same crash

Try installing x64 first and then windows 7 (ist partition x64 and second win7)

That's the problem i'm afraid. If you have a look at my video from the first post, I don't even get to run the installer, it bluescreens before it initialises. It's horribly frustrating. It's obviously related to the SATA controller just can't figure what.

Just slipstream the Jmicron RAID drivers (for the OS youre installing). Since there are no Intel RAID drivers on the DF1 site. I dont think you need Intel RAID drivers. The only thing thats Intel are the chipset drivers

It is there, but it's listed as "RAID Driver for ICH9R of P35 series under Windows XP, Vista 32/64bits."

As for the JMicron drivers, I slipped both them and the Intel ICH9R Drivers into the install.

Yup, just saw them on the bottom of the page. And you added both in as txt mode drivers? I would add the Intel ones only. See what happens. Make sure you add 32 bit for 32 and 64 for 64 bit. But dont add both in the same slipstream. What are you using now to slipstream?? Virtual PC?

Forgot to mention. HOW are you testing it?? Are you testing the ISO in XP mode, or Virtual PC? Or did you burn the ISO to cd?? Because if you tested it in XP mode, it'll crash, if you slipstreamed SATA drivers. But it wont in Virtual PC. So, I found out

Yep, text mode, tried it in VPC and it made no difference, and yes I added the right drivers, only extracted the ones I needed from the archive.

I have tried a burn to CD, and using the boot from ISO feature in EasyBCD (loads the ISO into ram then boots from it, pretty useful :D) same failure. Have tried booting from the ISO files and the CD in VPC however and no crashes so I believe my burn is good. As for the tip about only integrating the Intel drivers, I will give that a try, I didn't, amusingly enough think about trying them in isolation.

Ok to provide a small update, I tried that and it made no difference. I am going to try and get VMWare, mount my target disk in raw disk mode, and perform the textmode part of the install in VMWare, then do the rest natively and see if I get any more luck, it's about the last thing I can think of

Vista and Win7 will probably work, since both support SATA natively / have drivers for it. XP and XP Pro x64 do not (unless you slipstream SATA dirvers, or use a floppy / USB flash drive). Thats if AHCI is enabled

I can see what you're doing with teamviewer, if you want. To see if you're doing things properly

Can you just try my method please? Format and install x64 to the first partition ...make a second partition and install win7 on it. Bet it works

What I have tried doing was unplugging all of my drives with the exception of a blank 200GB SATA drive, which was the equivalent of installing to a blank disk, and it still bluescreened. I didn't even have anything plugged into the Intel controller.

Sure, if you wouldn't mind telling me how to get that all setup, I would be grateful for any help you could offer

Unplug all of your hard drives and see if you still get the 07b error.

Tried unplugging all disks from the Intel controller, and just leaving 2 IDE drives plugged in and it still crashed :(

I would say you have the wrong drivers then. Intel controllers can be tricky. Can you post your last session.ini from nLite?

As the original file was a bit big, I just pulled the Driver segment from the file, and it says this:

It will be interesting to see if the VMware works.

From what i read he is not even getting to the drive selection portion of setup, so your "method" holds no ground for needing to be used.

Thanks, this is what i was thinking. Although usually it would not BSOD, it would just show that no drives are available. It could be that the mainboard itself is simply just to new for XP.

Hmm, your MOBO apparently supports XP installs and you say you have disconnected all your drives and still get the issue?

Have you taken off EVERYTHING from the machine, IE - USB devices etc, so just leaving your mouse and keyboard etc.

If it still BSODs after doing that, then it could be graphics or sound etc. Im sure there must be an option to disable your sound card somewhere in your BIOS?

You have a mixture of Intel and JMicron controllers?

Try selecting only the one for your specific hardware as told in this image:

You can also take a look at this thread of Intel: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/107504-integration-of-intels-sata-ahci-and-raid-drivers/

I haven't disconnected all of my USB devices, as the error was related to storage I didn't think that was particularly relevant but I will try it and post of the outcome.

As for the onboard sound... already tried disabling that, made no difference.

Yes. My board has a JMB36x controller, and an ICH9R controller, that INF was from an older driver package, the newer driver packages has it as just a single driver.

Anyway I will try some of the tips in that MSFN thread and report back. Thank you.

Ooooh, good call, i missed that completely!

Im 95% that HAS to be the problem. It could be conflicting when trying to load.

I have tried it without integrating the JMicron controllers and it still bluescreens.

Tried the modded drivers referenced in that MSFN thread, and it still bluescreens as well. The only other suggestion I haven't tried is to enable ACPI, and I can't find that option in my BIOS at all

ACPI is enabled already by the looks of it, 2 different modes of which I have tried both.

I have now tried removing every USB device (I even removed my PCI USB card), I have also tried totally removing all drives from the Intel controller, and setting it back to IDE mode... STILL the same crash

So what are you trying to create? An XP x86 CD or XP x64 CD? If x86, you should be using x86 drivers not x64 drivers. Its AHCI, (to do with SATA), not ACPI (this is to do with Power settings). You said you're not using RAID, so you shouldn't be slipstreaming the Jmicron drivers. If you want to install / try Win 7 / Vista, just boot from the DVD, get to the setup screen / format / partition the hdd, then either one should install. The install will install regardless of what AHCI is set to in the BIOS. Since, BOTH Vista and Win7 support SATA natively (both have basic MS SATA drivers). I would say XP x64 doesn't support x64 SATA drivers properly

Read a bit more about XP Pro x64 (the bit about SATA)

XP Pro x64

Well you cant use 64bit drivers in 32 bit, or vice-versa. Its not going to work

I know. I was slipping X64 drivers into an X64 install. When I boot from the CD, the Intel AHCI drivers load during text mode so I am sure I have slipped the right drivers into the install.
