[Official] Fallout New Vegas

Go figure, if the flaw (and I do regard this as a flaw) still exists, I bet Obsidian thought, "If we don't do this then there won't be as many sales on the DLC, so it will look like what we did wasn't as good as what Bethesda did."

There's a mod that allows you to continue playing after the last mission, it was one of the first mods I installed after I heard that the game ends after the last mission.

So, I maxed out, installed all implants, have all the best weapons/armour and Deathclaws fear me :p

do they actually respawn? I've hunted down a few groups such as Quarry Junction/Harvester's Farm area but that was 7 days gametime ago and they have not re-appeared

The full stop ending was known some time before the release. There was either an article or another topic about it a few months ago where Obsidian admitted the full stop ending and said there would be a glaring "Don't go any further if you still want to do other stuff" point before the point of no return for the ending. They even recommended creating a separate save for that point so you could finish and still go back to that save and continue exploring.

On one hand I can understand this thinking - a game should have an ending (for the story). On the other, in an open world game with so much to see and do it seems wrong to have a concrete stop point.

A game can have an ending on the main story without ending the rest of the game; just look at GTA Vice City. I seem to remember that ended but it still allowed you to wander around and do things. The difference here would be that the side quests that you haven't done would still be available.

Man im diggin the western music now......

"There was forty feet between them when they stopped to make their play

And the swiftness of the ranger is still talked about today

Texas Red had not cleared leather fore a bullet fairly ripped

And the ranger's aim was deadly with the big iron on his hip

Big iron on his hip"
