+KibosJ Subscriber² Posted February 25, 2011 Subscriber² Share Posted February 25, 2011 I'm actually quite liking this so far :D Unlike a few I love the new fullscreen apps. Can't wait to see how this comes along. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/947186-mac-os-x-lion-discussion/page/25/#findComment-593734668 Share on other sites
.Neo
I don't think I've ever ran a first Mac OS X Developer Preview that was as solid as this one. Just a wild guess here, but I think we might see Mac OS X Lion earlier than expected (same thing happened to the Mac App Store for example). So far Mac OS X Lion seems amazing. The only thing that's a bit obnoxious is Launch Pad. It's really way too "in your face" on a 27-inch iMac. Vice
If any of you use Dropbox and are unable to get Dropbox to run on Lion (It won't launch siting an incompatibility with this version of OS X) right click on Dropbox.app and select "Show Package Contents" Open the folder called Contents and then double click on the info.plist file - This should open it in Property List Editor. Then edit the line next to "Bundle version" to say 2.0 save and close. Dropbox will now launch and run without any issues. This fix was provided by a user on the Dropbox support forums called Filip S. and it worked for me. enigma-penguin and Jonnoy 2 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/947186-mac-os-x-lion-discussion/page/25/#findComment-593734674 Share on other sites
Mohit Singhal
Thanks for ur previous replies guys regarding the installation. I just installed it on my main SL partition, everything is working great except at times it's a bit slow. But that's ok considering it's a beta release, overall it's very polished. I am still playing around with it, but so far I am loving it. Cheers, Mohit Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/947186-mac-os-x-lion-discussion/page/25/#findComment-593734682 Share on other sites
Quillz
Well it "IS" possible to use the DMG hidden in the package, to install (new install) on another partition or drive. Could also restore the dmg to another partition(or usb key) and boot off that partition to install it. (MBA Owners) On the first machine you use the redemption code on, Lion downloads "Install Mac OS X" from the App Store. All you have to do is copy this onto every machine you want to install Lion on. (Although according to the ADC FAQ, all these machines need to have your account credentials on the App Store.) Now, I don't know if that's really true or not. If it isn't, than that means you could just share the application with anyone who wants it. Seeing as Lion is now on all the major torrent sites, maybe this is what has occurred. I don’t recall which model that is... Do you have a glass trackpad with no button on it? If so, it’s all going to work, your trackpad supports multitouch gestures. If you have a button at the bottom, you’ll need to upgrade to use this feature ! Yes, all MacBook models from late 2008 onward (which have the unibody construction and glass trackpad) support Multi-Touch and so will have the option to revert to traditional scrolling. Anything older than that and you are stuck with the iOS-scrolling, whether you like it or not. One thing I do not like yet is the new behavior of the dock lights, which are now off by default (unless you re-enable them). Actually apps remain open even if you don't exit them like in Snow Leopard. I thought they closed like iPhoto and resume when open. You can still quit applications like normal. Say you close Safari with 8 tabs. When you start it up again, those 8 tabs and even their exact position on the page will be restored. Or say you close Pages and you're in the middle of typing something. When you restart Pages, the document at the exact point you left off at will be restored. (Safari still doesn't work like this yet, because 5.1 hasn't been optimized for Lion.) This is also supposed to work even between logging out and rebooting your computer. They did it for Snow Leopard.... maybe they will again... who knows I think they will. All they have to do is give you a new redemption code per new build, type it into the App Store and download the latest version of Lion. Quillz
Hey, did anyone else notice that the "Insert Special Characters" menu got an overhaul? Seems a bit buggy, though, as double-clicking on a character no longer inserts it into your post. Also, hovering over a character now tells you what it is and has a little question mark in the lower right, which I presume gives you more info, though I couldn't figure out how to use it. Guest
Does the black iOS scrollbar remains there on your Macs? On the videos i've seen it disappears like the developer version shown by Apple a few months ago. Am I doing anything wrong? :D EDIT i've seen the option right now, it's set to automatic based on the input device. Sorry I hadn't seen it! Even Snow Leopard had less major features than this, and Lion is a breakthrough in terms of alpha stableness. Apparently, this buil does have TRIM support. Am I doing anything wrong? :D EDIT i've seen the option right now, it's set to automatic based on the input device. Sorry I hadn't seen it! The default is to have it based on the input device, but it seems a bit buggy, because even with a mouse, it's still hidden. (And I'd presume that a mouse user would want scroll bars visible at all times.) It's also a bit buggy switching from "always shows" to "always hide." The default is to have it based on the input device, but I've switched it to always hide. No matter what, though, you will always get the iOS-style scroll bar. The Aqua scroll bars are dead and buried. I also hope "Graphite" makes a comeback. I don't think I've ever ran a first Mac OS X Developer Preview that was as solid as this one. This developer preview is rock solid for me and I see no qualms running it on a day-to-day basis. Don't forget we got Snow Leopard a little earlier than expected, and "Summer" begins in late June, so this could realistically be only a few more months away from release. My guess is we'll have a couple more builds between now and WWDC, and at the event we'll get the final release date, which hopefully is quite close to the earliest days of summer. Xtreme $niper
Apple also hides the Library folder that used to be in the home folder in Lion. Yeah 'Go To Folder' and type in \Users\username\Library\ Just noticed this, In language & Text and into inputs, there is an option for British - Microsoft. Is this because I installed a Microsoft keyboard or is this new to Lion, I never noticed it there before :s Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/947186-mac-os-x-lion-discussion/page/25/#findComment-593734964 Share on other sites

lunarworks
I'm not surprised about Apple only supporting TRIM on their own drives for now. Although Apple has no problem with you installing a 3rd party drive, they don't offer support for it. Chlorpromazine
Ok, I had to restore my backup and revert to SL 10.6.6; the OS itself seems fine, but installing over my existant HD gave me some weird problems: Weird and random characters in Safari; GPU memory completely full after half an hour, then the OS becomes unusable; Fonts randomly activating and deactivating (I'm using FontExplorer, maybe this is its fault); Occasional freeze. I'm giving a try on a fresh install in a dedicated partition, just to play with it.
