Quillz
Just had my first system freeze today. Put it to sleep and then when I tried to log back in, it just hung for about 10 minutes. Had to physically shut down the computer, disconnect the HDD and reconnect it. But I think it's more an issue with the actual external HDD, as it's pretty old and I suspect might be slowly dying. RCOO
Well, I already got the Mail App which I wanted to try. However it won't work with 10.6.3 which is the one I'm currently using. Is there a workaround? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/947186-mac-os-x-lion-discussion/page/26/#findComment-593735194 Share on other sites
Quillz
Yes, use it on Lion as it was intended to be used. I doubt you'll get it working on 10.6. Simon Veteran Posted February 25, 2011 Veteran Share Posted February 25, 2011 New feature in System Preferences: if you click and hold on "show all", it'll show this menu: Hitting that "Customize" item will show you this screen: As you might guess, hitting any of those checkboxes will hide that preference pane. Nice way to clean up system prefs from all those panes you'll never use! Quillz
[ snip ] That's awesome, and makes a lot of sense. Now I can hide "Mouse" on my MacBook and "Trackpad" on my iMac. I've also heard that we can now have a different wallpaper for each space. Also, when downloading the second image you posted, I came across this little enhancement... The level of fit and finish in Lion is really amazing. [snip] The level of fit and finish in Lion is really amazing. What enhancement? The arrow or that you can open it in a new window? You can also do that in SL. — I don’t particularly agree with hiding things in the prefpane, because it’s not so obvious how to hide and unhide them. I would NEVER have thought to hold the "Show All" button. Quillz
Just tried it and you can! Cool. :D Awesome, that was actually one of the things I always wanted to do in each space. I have a space that has all my word processors and sometimes I just want a plain black background for it. What enhancement? The arrow or that you can open it in a new window? You can also do that in SL. — I don’t particularly agree with hiding things in the prefpane, because it’s not so obvious how to hide and unhide them. I just never noticed it in Snow Leopard. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/947186-mac-os-x-lion-discussion/page/26/#findComment-593735286 Share on other sites

I just never noticed it in Snow Leopard. Ohhh you meant the arrow. I thought the option to open in a new window or tab. Hmmm I don’t know how to make it appear in SL. The menu appears a little higher when I right click at the bottom of a page in Safari, for it to overlap on the Dock. Quillz
Anybody else having issues dragging images from the Web onto the desktop? Instead of saving as .jpg or .png, it saves as .webloc Yes, this has been noted and I believe it is a bug. This Lion preview is using Safari 5.1, the same version on Snow Leopard and thus it probably has no Lion optimizations at all (note it's still using the old Aqua progress bars, for example.) My guess is a future build will include either Safari 6 or an optimized 5.x build for Lion that will fix this issue. protocol7
Has anybody figured out how to undo the inverted trackpad scrolling if you don't have a multitouch trackpad? This is how you're supposed to turn it off, but if you don't have a multitouch trackpad this is all you get (ignore the circled option, this is just a pic I googled). Quillz
I don't think it's possible to undo it if you lack a multi-touch trackpad. But the seed notes for Lion list it as an "issue," which implies that perhaps the option was intended to be there but wasn't included in the current build. protocol7
Yeah I was hoping it might be possible to over-ride it for now by editing a plist. But where is that setting stored... Quillz
I noticed that the Spaces preference panel has a few changes... I'm not sure if the "Desktop" text is a bug or if they forgot to change the "Every Space" text. Quillz
I wonder if Desktop 1, 2 etc are placeholders and we will be able to give them our own custom names in the final version... I didn't think of that, that's a possibility. Also notice that the previous graphic that visually represented Spaces is gone now. However, it gives us more space to drag in applications one by one or in groups. Before, with the graph, it showed 4 apps at a time, now it seems to be able to show like 10 :) Optimisation for the win... Quillz
Apparently you can change the wallpaper for each space using Mission Control, but how? Also, apparently Mission Control fails at math... Also, does anyone else feel that Dashboard looks out of place using a background that doesn't fit with the other one being used system-wide? On the left is the Dashboard background, on the right is the "canvas" one that is being used for everything else. Hopefully the one on the left goes away in a future build. PyX
Also, apparently Mission Control fails at math... What do you mean? Desktop 1, 2, 4, 3... You have your four desktops, but in the wrong order :p What I noticed is that it does not scale the windows correctly on the main desktop. I had a window that hid all my other spaces once, so I could barely click on them and know what they contained. :-\ Also, does anyone else feel that Dashboard looks out of place using a background that doesn't fit with the other one being used system-wide? Yeah, we need to be able to change the Dashboard’s background, just like the desktops. And it could be called a desktop... Also, I didn’t figure out how to go back to my desktops when I’m in the Dashboard, until I summon Mission control... Maybe they need an arrow on which we can click so that it brings us back to our Desktops. But honestly, Dashboard was perfect on Snow Leopard. I don’t like it having a whole Desktop dedicated to it, with nothing else in the background. It looks empty and it has a poor ambiance. I really have the feeling that I will start using it less because of that. Strange, huh? Leave it as is. Even if this is the exact same way you want to incorporate it in iOS. Quillz
I don't have a problem with Dashboard becoming a dedicated "space" at all. In fact, I kind of like it because now in addition to the dedicated keyboard key, I can just swipe left from the first space (my primary one) to get to the Dashboard. If they could just use the system-side background for it, I'd be pleased with it. PyX
Ahh, I know why I will use it less. I have a lyrics application and was watching videoclips on YouTube while I had this widget open for the lyrics of the song and the video played in the background. I kinda liked it :) Or if they have an option like a little checkbox to make it like before, I wouldn’t be against ...
