Guest
Loving Lion so far. One iOS feature I'd love to see make it to OS X would the tap at the top of the window to return to the top, would be particularly useful in Safari. Not sure how they'd implement it, but just throwing it out there. But for those who prefer using the mouse and GUI, that would be something kind of neat. It could even be made a system-wide thing so all apps behave that way. Yeah, something with the Trackpad would be amazing. They seem to be eliminating the need for a keyboard (to an extent) with all these new gestures and this is just the last remaining one. Do we think Apple will start shipping the Magic Trackpad with new desktop Macs when Lion launches, rather than the Magic Mouse? iuerg87yerg879e0rg9erugjer
They sshould change the launchpad gesture from 4 fingers to 5, feels 10x easier to do IMO Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/947186-mac-os-x-lion-discussion/page/41/#findComment-593762304 Share on other sites
painejake
Must admit I'm trying to hold off from installing Lion until retail release. This thread is making it difficult though! Can't wait until it's shipped in a few months time :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/947186-mac-os-x-lion-discussion/page/41/#findComment-593762436 Share on other sites
.Neo
Nothing, but considering the first build of Lion was distributed through the App Store instead of just providing a simple ISO, it seems like future builds will use it, as well. Apple never provides ISO images and in the end what you download through the App Store is a burnable Mac OS X Install DVD DMG file. Elliott
They sshould change the launchpad gesture from 4 fingers to 5, feels 10x easier to do IMO If you use your thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers, the 4 finger gestures are really easy. If you use every finger but your thumb, they're a pain in the ass. Loving Lion so far. .Neo
I wish they would make the flow of things more natural. Like being able to throw a window out of your way with inertia or to another space for example. Make animations more dynamic and less tight where things wobble a tad etc. If executed properly it could be really nice. We already see some of those things in Mac OS X Lion of course. Another amazing feature of Mac OS X Lion is that my external speakers don't pop once every minute or so, something that has been happening ever since upgrading to Mac OS X v10.6.5. Seriously, they should put that one on the box. the evn show
We've got these really pretty high-resolution resources: icons, background gradients, etc. I wish they'd use them for the accessibility modes. Instead of waiting until our screen resolution doubles and keeping everything the same size, they could effectively halve the current resolution and double the size of everything. For those with with failing vision (ie: our grandparents) it'd be a boon. A 27" iMac running at half resolution would be able to display roughly the same amount of content that a current macbook air, but all of the glyphs/interface components would become substantially larger and easier to see and target. There may also be some value for people with motor-impairment (children, paraplegics, etc). If spaces, mission control, full screen applications, and expos? continue to improve the loss of real-estate on one display will be somewhat mitigated: you can always just go to one application per display and scrub between them (something which should be integrated into the simple finder, and that option should be expose even for non-restricted accounts). The current zoom/scroll/etc tools work, but many people just want bigger 'things' on the the screen?resolution be damned?which is why you often see people who don't understand concepts like 'native resolution' running their LCD displays at 1024x768 even though native resolution is much higher. PyX
Does Lion prevent you from downloading through the developer's website then? Nope. How does that make my point invaluable anyway? I?m just talking about a way they can improve the Mac App Store if they want 100% adoption as soon as possible. irunwithknives
WTF is /.MobileBackups?! Using a lot of Storage! i know this is a tad delayed response but my best guess is that its related to the new "Local Snapshots" feature of Time Machine what it does is makes a local backup of any changed files, but only the changed files, on your computer when you are on the go and not connected to your time machine backup. that way, even though if your computer totally crashes while your out your still screwed, but if you loose a file while on the go you still have it around. On my end Adium refused to connect entirely when running it on Mac OS X Lion. So did Microsoft Messenger. PyX
Does anyone have problems with Adium on Lion? the chat window creates a space where you have to go up every time you receive a message to read it. I?m not really surprised. This app, as good and useful as it seems to be, has been programmed by too many people at different times and they?re on too many things at the same time. I?m pretty sure every single piece of code behind this app is coded in a different manner. Then they put the pieces together and that?s why it has a countless number of bugs. It?s still my #1 IM application though, like a lot of other people, which makes me think IM on the Mac isn?t there yet in 2011. Xtreme $niper
It?s still my #1 IM application though, like a lot of other people, which makes me think IM on the Mac isn?t there yet in 2011. But that's probably going to be a moot point some time soon. Social media networks and email has replaced the "traditional" instant messenger client for me, personally. If I really need to be on an IM network, I happen to jump onto GTalk first because it's integrated with Gmail and I was already checking my emails. Everyone else is usually on Facebook so I'll either shoot them a chat or inbox message and I'll usually get a response rather quickly. I guess part of it is that I don't have the time to sit and chat away on IM networks ever since I got out of school and went into the workforce. Perhaps there will always be a place for IM in some form with the younger generation, but I think dedicated clients are on their way out. With my schedule these days, I'm happily content with sending an email style inbox message instead of dealing with realtime chat sessions. It wastes too much of my time otherwise. PyX
Yeah, the Facebook chat is awesome but I can?t say it has been very stable so far. Plus, it lacks a lot of key features (A/V chat, file transferring, chat history, invisible mode, etc.) and unfortunately a few people turn it off. But in the next couple years I?m confident that it will become a standard. protocol7
It?s really breaking my nuts that we have to create an account with a real credit card number just to buy free stuff. The App Store uses the same account you use for the iTunes store. Create an account in iTunes using the "free app" trick. You won't need to enter any credit card info. Then just use that account in the App Store.
