Mac OS X Lion Discussion

Well, I actually think that's a good thing. Sometimes younger people with credit cards quickly get in over their heads and amount debt. Probably unlikely with cheap songs, but it's not unheard of.

...then they would have learnt a valuable life lesson. Besides, they could always use a Debit Card instead.

What has your response to do with the subject of Apple not allowing you to download free apps without credit card information?

So this upcoming Thursday will have been the second week since the first build. I suspect we might potentially see a new build then or later in the week. Especially given how stable I and many others have found the first build, I think this is going to be one solid release.

Is there still a good chance of new things being added? It seems like the ability to apply a custom name to your Space/Desktop is coming, but there's currently no way to do this in the current build.

The way I remember it Mac OS X Snow Leopard DP updates didn't speed up until the month (or so) before release.

Snow Leopard was another great release, it actually managed to come out a little bit earlier than expected. I think Lion is going to follow the same trend, as well. I've been running the current build on my MacBook as a day-to-day OS and really have not experienced any major issues. I think a late spring release (read: mid-June) might be possible.

I don't.

What do you mean, you don?t what? You don?t have an account in the Mac App Store? You don?t have a credit card? You don?t link your credit card number to your account? You don?t download anything from the store?

Ehm yeah, okay. What I'm saying is that I wouldn't expect a new build this or next week.

Same. This is the first build that got in the hands of thousands of people. They will get a bunch of comments, bug reports, complaints, and everything.

On one side, they need to stick to their roadmap, and on another side they need to sort out all the feed-back, then they need to address the major problems reported. Finally, they need to compile and test everything that has been added to see if it actually works better.

Lion?s developer build was released like yesterday. They need to breathe for a bit and maybe in April we?ll get another build.

Maybe the Dutch iTunes Store doesn't require a credit card number.

I have an Apple ID that works with both the iTunes Store and App Store which allows me to download free applications without filling in any credit card information.

Well, for one thing, that is not entirely true. You can also use a PayPal account, or as others have pointed out, you can use a bank debit card or prepaid debit card as well.

I suspect mine was the same way: my Apple ID dates back to iTools, though I do have my credit card linked to it now.

In the worst case you can just use a mastercard/visa gift certificate available at any drug store or gas station to create a new account.

You?ll need to tell me how you did that :p

Last time I tried to download something free, it kept harassing me for 5 minutes to validate my credit card informations. I decided to give up.

I just told the iTunes Store I don't want to add a credit card. Not much magic going on there...

"Geen" means "None". It's pretty simple and straightforward.

I think mine dates back to mid 2003, I had to create one to purchase my original eMac online. Beyond that I chanced it once to a new email and postal address and added a mobile number, but that's about it.

Regardless if it's true or not for the United States iTunes Store (I wouldn't know really), I didn't understand what Nidoking response had to do with the subject in general. That's it.

Hopefully an updated build is released soon or I am going to have to go back to Snow Leopard :( and I really don't want to go back lol.

My Mac Mini has panicked every day for the last week or so :/

All seems to be relating to the Nvidia graphics too. I am going to have to turn my Mac OFF at night. At the moment I never turn it off I just leave it on.

Doing this though, my mac starts to slow down when I come to use it, programs start to lag, then it KPs and I when it turns back on, half of my USB devices don't work correctly and I have to unplug and re-plug them. This has only started happening since loading Lion and started happening the day I loaded it :(

I have gone back from OSX Lion to Snow Leopard. While installing S.L, i erased my entire HDD however when i want to setup Bootcamp in the fresh install of S.L, it says it cant install. When I checked System Profile, i see that that there is Recovery HD partition.

How do i get rid of this partition? I don't see it under Disk Utility so can't format it.

You should be able to fire up disk utility after booting from your 10.6 install DVD or USB stick, choose to repartition the drive with however many partitions you like, with Apple HFS+ Journaled partitions using GUID for the partition layout. You'll have to restore your documents and settings from the back-up.

It's weird, because that partition never showed up for me after installing Mac OS X Lion. :/
