Tom W has flown from the nest

Recommended Posts

During the early hours of this morning, Tom's new site winrumors.com went live.

It was a bit unexpected, because we were still in discussions on how we would approach this, and what Tom's role (if any) would be on Neowin after this change. Tom has been here with us since the beginning and has helped Neowin develop into what it is today, he also played a huge role in making Neowin "all original" content, with no more copy/pasting syndication and us paying staff for the first time in our history for news content.

There are a few reasons for this move, Tom feels that he wants something to call his own, and despite us doing what we could, like paying for content/trips to events and the Administrator position, this wasn't satisfying enough, and as co-founder I can totally relate to this. Some people are happy to be part of Neowin, while others feel they can do a better job going at it alone.

So with that we have agreed the following, removal from the Administrator group, and instead placed in the Partner group (like Julio from TechSpot), he retains News Reporter permissions, to post non-Microsoft news here on Neowin, but no longer has a role in the operations of the site.

I hope we can all wish Tom the best, and Neowin will of course support his website and cite it wherever possible.

Tom will cover TechEd/CES 2011 as planned for Neowin.

I get that Tom can't post microsoft news on Neowin. Does that mean you guys will get all future Microsoft news from his site? Since posting your own Microsoft news would compete with his site. Unless he doesn't mind or something... How's that going to work Neobond? Just curious.

Well we also get Microsoft news from Engadget, Ars Technica.. so really it will just be another source. Plus Tom isn't the only news guy that has all the MS gems ;)

Good luck on the new venture Tom!

I'm honestly surprised it's really taken this long to get a dedicated Windows rumors site on the internet. Mac/Apple ones have been a dime a dozen for years, but Windows rumors seem to just mix in with general tech and industry news at most sites, if they are even published.
