Fusion OS

There is no multi-rename gui in windows (by default), you can use ren to rename multiple, or do one at a time, by clicking the file twice, slowly... You would HAVE to use a 3rd party GUI that would do the renames.

Also, technically any "Command Line" or "Terminal" commands, are pretty much applications (ren.exe, ipconfig.exe, etc) so any Program can just run the Command Line utility with arguments. You may not get the feedback you want from the program, but it will work.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was challenging Subject Delta to back up his claim of being able to do everything from the Windows GUI instead of the command line (which clearly isn't always the case).

Got an error when I tried to do an install... error 0 or something like that :( I burned it to the disc fine though!

Can you give me an exact error code please?

OK, maybe I missed it somewhere here, but what is the username and password for booting into the live version?

It hasn't been mentioned before but it will be whatever he had it set as before running remastersys.

What is it RKWJ25?

Why hello there Neowinians!

I just wanted to tell you all that Beta 2 Development is coming along very nicely, and I am going to show you the first screenshots of post-beta builds. Things that you can see in the screenshots are that the transparency of the panels have been improved as well as the brders of the panels are sharper. Another improvement you can see is the new taskbar, and the running indicators. And finally you will see thatr the installation size has been significantly reduced to around 3Gb. So with out further ado here are the screens.

PS: You cant see the window borders yet, they are a suprise! ;)

Another Update Here! :)

Well as you know we are hard at work on Beta 2 of Fusion OS which boasts many improvements, and enhancements of previous features. Cant wait until you all can use it! But today I want to show you something, and get your feedback on something. I created a little product roadmap for Fusion OS that shows our past releases and the future releases, I will put that right here:

roadmap.png

Also our release cycles will be in increments of 0.5 such as, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 etc. There may also be a release candidate for Fusion OS 1.0 but that is not certain yet, as you can see we are really striving for a quick release schedule by pushing 2.0 out the door before years end! I will have much more information for you all soon. And now on to the thing I need your feedback on. The window designs. OK so this image I am going to show you is a mock-up but not at the same time, it is because it is not actually running but if it gets chosen to be the window theme we already have all these resources and the theme will be EXACTLY as it looks in this screenshot, so think of it as a working concept or preview type thing. :) So What I need to know is what you guys think about this window design and if anything could be improved on it? I will be posting a video of Beta 2 in action in the next few days, so thats all until then! Please post your feedback, and thanks for reading!

Looking great so far but I do have to chime at this point to express my opinion on those buttons. I'm personally not feeling them. The idea is quite awesome. I like the Min/Max buttons together like that, but they don't look like they belong in their current form. They don't seem fluid (for lack of a better term) enough for the rest of the OS look. My suggestion would be to add a bit of roundness to the corners and tone the border of the buttons down quite a bit. So they look like they're part of the bar, rather than on top of it. I could create a mock up of what I'm suggesting if necessary.

The X in the close button also doesn't look right to me.

yes, pretty much this

i also like the min/max buttons joined like that

the black border around the buttons is too thick i think, making the buttons look like they don't belong with the window if you get what i'm saying

and with the X, maybe a little different font for it, because with the way it is in the mockup part of the X is barely visible making it look almost just ( \ ) if you don't look closely

Looking good, although I think it would look better if it had a thin border of glass but a normal title bar, hard to explain so i made a quick mock up.

Hey Everyone!

Sorry for the few day delay! But here is another image of the window broders, and I have two versions. I need to know which one you all think will look the best. The improvements over the last one are:

- Fixed border around buttons

- "X" on the clse button is fixed

- Alternate version with grey box titlebar

-Few other small tweaks.

I will post those pictures below and also he next thing is that today i will annouce the general availability of Fusion OS Beta 2! Beta 2 will be available to the public on ... May 16th 2011. Fusion OS Beta 2 boasts many news features such as the following:

- New Lightweight Taskbar!

- New Panel graphics

- New window border

- Finished metacity theme

- Search bar

- Active windows search

- Rebuilt on a lighter core

- Install size of only ~3Gb

- Will fit on a cd!

- Revised included applications (also includes Libre Office)

- Blazingly fast! Around 1.5x-2x as fast as Beta 1!

Well there you have a worthy feature update, and Beta 2 will also mark the last in the Beta phase. The next release will be a Release Candidate and there will onlt be one RC (RC1). After that we will maked necessary changes and release the final version of Fusion OS V1! So that about wraps up what I have for you today. In the next few days I will post up pictures of the current Beta 2 build. Stay tuned for more, and thanks so much for reading!

I really appreciate your work. My biggest gripe with linux is the inconsistent and stupid UI. It might be good for people who are well into linux and don't care much about GUI at all, but for those new users who don't have much of know how, its good to have something which is close to proper interface. It should be easy enough so that my grand ma can also use it. Then only we can hope that some day Linux will be as popular as other distros are.

How about creating your own OS not based on Linux? as in make it all yourselves not just change the user interface on an already made OS.

I think the effort should be appreciated. Quit trolling this guy who is taking that much pain on his part. Even just chaning an interface takes a lot of effort.

Also wanted to ask, which distro is Fusion based on?

  • 2 weeks later...

Is this related in any way to this distro:

Just curious...

No this is an unrelated project (this is actually the first I have heard of it).

Thanks, and Fusion is based on Ubuntu Minimal 10.10.
