Introducing Yahoo! Messenger 11 Beta!

I think a great deal of reason for that has been Yahoo's cash-flow situation (application development costs money) - Yahoo likely didn't even HAVE the money for a serious YM revamp until it sold some assets (Zimbra among them)

Well, I don't think it takes an awful lot of money just to get the interface nice looking.I mean if the software is modular, it must be easy for them to modify the UI module to make calls to the native UI APIs for drawing the window elements instead of the custom god-awful skins, or at least provide an option to disable custom skins.

now they want to keep your message history on their servers. thats kinda creepy.

I finally decided to download it, it actually looks much better than the version in the screenshots. But still abit bloated and ugly looking. could get rid of the huge tabs.

But it is beta. Still isn't a game changer. WLM 2011 is much better. So is trillian 5 :p

The WPF version was slow, barely responsive if any animation occurs, and pretty featureless - still pretty though. On the contrary, WLMessenger 2011 manages to sneak in UI animations and still remain snappy.

The Vista version was really never finished.

The only Yahoo Messenger for Windows I ever installed was the WPF Vista version and it was one of the most visually appealing programs I've ever seen. I still have that installer.

care to share?
