ViperAFK Posted November 22, 2010 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Yeah but opera does make good use of the statusbar, its not useless like it was in firefox/ie(basically only used for extension icons in firefox, which are now encouraged to be placed in the toolbar) Opera puts the panel button there which gives you access to bookmarks/history/downloads and all that, opere link and unite controls, displays urls when you mouse over them (like firefox 4 now does in the addressbar) and the handy view box. I don't really think its bulky, but it could be more streamlined, for example stop/reload/go in the addressbar like firefox would be nice, and remove buttons very few people use by default like fastforward and wand. Its only a few pixels taller vertically then chrome (default setup, no bookmarks bar) while exposing more functionality. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Try pinning tabs. Also try dragging a tab over another one. 'Stacking' tabs sounds like a neat idea to group your tabs together. I think something similar is in Firefox 4 but this is a simpler way to accomplish the task. It should look like this: Nice! This is almost how I wished Firefox's new tab manager should work when I posted on MozillaZine recently. It makes it more like a part of the browser than a bolted on feature. The best thing is that pinned tabs can't be closed by accident. That's why I use it when I writer long posts or similar. I like that too! I really dislike how Chrome's pinned tabs can be Ctrl+W'ed away, which I often do by mistake since I'm so used to keeping things tidy. :s All this, and Extensions might turn me from Chrome for a while. Currently it is best when you are going to leave a few similar tabs open for awhile because you have to manually stack the tabs, but once they automate some things (such as stacking tabs based on domain or those opened from a specific tab or however they do it) then it will be very useful. One major problem with stacked tabs though is they have major issues with single-key shortcuts. In Opera, I use 1 to go to the previous tab and 2 to go to the next tab. It makes jumping through side-by-side tabs really quick, but it doesn't play well with stacked tabs yet.....it moves the stacked tab around, makes it disappear and reappear, and do all kinds of other crazy stuff. For example, I had set up a stack with 5-6 technology-themed sites. I ended up closing all but one of them, and now that last remaining tab is still active, as in I can Ctrl+Tab to it, but it's not actually on the tab bar anymore. I hope so. There is still a static statusbar and I don't see that changing anytime soon given the amount of stuff Opera puts down there. You can hide it and install an extension that draws a statusbar on the page itself, but it doesn't work with all sites (such as this forum). No, he is saying he prefers Opera's implementation, which is still the same as always, a dedicated status bar. I agree with him, I do not like the status bar popping up and down at the bottom when I hover over links, even if it doesn't shrink the page to fit in when it does it, I would rather it stay there and simply show the normal status bar text when it needs to. Can someone give me a source where you got this from? It wasn't posted officially on the Opera website and google doesn't give much either. The official beta is supposed to be released tomorrow. The only source is that it is available for download on Opera's FTP. They have been known for posting builds on their FTP before releasing information about them though, it hasn't been officially released but unless theres a major showstopper bug it will most likely be the same as tomorrows official beta release. Thanks Right click it > customize > appearence and select images only. And for padding go to opera:config and search chrome. The last program I remember seeing using it was that wasn't Opera would be Windows Live Messenger (pre-2011 builds).
