Good luck since the notebook only have a limited hard drive space.

And don't there are any drivers for it if you do decide to install another OS.

From what I've read it has a 16GB SSD in it. This could support Windows XP/Vista/7 and most Linux distrobutions (such as Ubuntu). Providing there are drivers for the hardware.

I'd use Chrome OS during the pilot test, if it was something I'd like I'd keep it around afterwards but if not I'd likely put Ubuntu or Windows 7 on it.

So annoyed that all the ones coming to my town that aren't for me.

I could likely get away with calling and redirecting one of them but I'm guessing it would be mail fraud or something similar so I won't even try.

What stinks is I already thought of tons of uses for this, and you only have 140 characters to share that. It also stinks when you have uses for this and a percentage of the books are probably going to people who will use it for a few minutes and forget about them, breaking the agreement and making somebody who could use it, miss out.

Sadly its something we'll all have to get over. What they do, they are responsible for.

Only 1 sent to my city as well and it's not me. They are shipping a lot to San Francisco (181 total so far). I just hope they send out few more to my city and I can get one.

One was sent to my town as 'Overnight'. Though the 'location' it was sent to is a mystery to me as the location is 'SIDE DOOR'. :|

You didn't drive around looking for the SIDE DOOR? :)

No, was half tempted to though. I was thinking it was a business name around here or something but I've never heard of it.

Most of the hardware is pretty standard netbook fare, so it shouldn't be hard to install another OS. And it has a 16GB SSD, so it should be large enough for most OSs, other than Vista. You could also possibly install a larger SSD.

It's probably residential. SIDE DOOR is similar to PORCH. There was just no one home, and they left it where they thought it might be found.

Though wouldn't it still show an address?

I don't think they make addresses public for that reason. If you knew the address and that it was left at the SIDE DOOR, you could retrieve it.

When the location is listed like that, it means that no one was there to recieve the package, and simply stating where at the delivery location the driver left the package. I've had quite a few come to me that had "carport" or "front porch" as the location.

Is there a new shipment out, or are you guys still referring to the 3rd batch?

According to the tracking site, the shipment for today hasn't gone into UPS's system yet.

Why did they switch to ground shipping?

I believe they switched because they wanted to get some hype built up and get some initial machines out into the wild quickly, then get the main chunk out slower. It helps to save money and identify initial issues before getting them out to the mainstream public I'd imagine.

Also, for the record, a whopping zero have been sent to any of the towns surrounding me. Hoorah!

Being in South Dakota, I doubt I will get one (for me personally or my wifes business). I noticed one got sent to Rapid City which is 50 miles away and its the second biggest city in SD. Which means my town, being the 9th largest, probably wont get **** whereas places like San Fran get what, 200+?
