+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted December 18, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted December 18, 2010 From the software-I-never-knew-I-needed department: The popular text editor UltraEdit is now available for Mac OS X as well. It comes with a ton of features and a $79.95 price tag. As well as with a not too Mac-like UI: I guess it's aimed at people who've used UltraEdit on Windows and don't want to switch. For everybody else there are a bunch of free editors or payware like BBEdit and TextMate. xxxxxx.xxxxxx
$79.95 I suppose that is considered cheap when Coda and BBEdit are both $99 - But as said before there are alternatives out there that would do the same job and cost you nothing. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/961770-ultraedit-text-editor-for-mac-released/#findComment-593506416 Share on other sites

TemperingPick
Are they insane? The interface looks like some cheap JAVA app. I take it you've never seen the Windows one. It's so mind-numbing busy. The OS X looks awesome compared to that. LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted December 18, 2010 Veteran Share Posted December 18, 2010 I do not see much reason of paying for something (especially when it costs that much) when there are plenty of FREE alternatives out there.... Too bad there is not a version of Notepad ++ out for mac :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/961770-ultraedit-text-editor-for-mac-released/#findComment-593506428 Share on other sites
xxxxxx.xxxxxx
... 80 bucks for a notepad clone? ... This isn't quite a notepad clone, this is a coding environment with Project management and formatting that Notepad does not include, to name a couple. Quillz
I see it more as a less-pretty BBEdit, my text editor of choice. Although I think if the toolbar just used standard Mac OS X widgets, it could look quite decent. .Neo
I take it you've never seen the Windows one. It's so mind-numbing busy. The OS X looks awesome compared to that. Mac OS X applications tend to compared to their Windows counterparts. It's one of the reasons I hate working with Windows. There's no consistency at all.
