Steven P. Administrators Posted January 14, 2011 Administrators Share Posted January 14, 2011 Windows Server 2008 R2, stays either "Checking for updates" or the screen below and never completes. I have tried deleting the SoftwareRedistribution folder, checked my connection and routing which is all good, but I can't work this one out? The Windows Update Service also can't be stopped or restarted, the only way to "reset" it from being stuck on the Checking for updates, is to reboot the server :/ Edit: After waiting, I did eventually get the 8 important updates (19MB) are ready to install, but then I get the above screen again, but this time with 8 updates displayed. Any tips?
bruNo_
Can you disable the service? If yes try this: 1. Set the Services "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" and "Windows Update" to Disabled.2. Restart the computer. 3. Renamed C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution-Old. 4. Restart the computer. 5. Set the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" to Automatic and "Windows Update" service to Automatic (Delayed). 6. Start the BITS and WU services. 7. Opened the Windows Update and configured it to Automatic download and install of all updates (including non-critical).

bruNo_
That's weird man. As I stated in your other thread, I had the same problem with my Windows 7 at home. :/ To fix that I installed all non-essential updates first and it worked... :iiam:
Singh400
Those 8 important updates. Manually install them by downloading them off Microsoft Download Centre.
